Minister explains
therapeutic touch
The next Walton UCW meeting
will be held on Sept. 6 at 8 p.m. in
the church basement. Guest speaker
will be Rev. Joan Tucklinsky. Her
topic will be about therapeutic
touch.
The Vesey bulb orders are due at
this meeting. You can order fall
bulbs from any UCW member or
contact Monique Baan 887-6998 for
order forms or questions.
It is also Toonies for Friendship
night, so remember change. All
money collected goes towards
Missions, and the losing team
plans something “special” for the
group.
Everyone is welcome, bring a
friend and come to meet the new
minister.
FROM WALTON
VVI tours area
Ten members of the Walton
Women's Institute attended the
business and industry meeting
Wednesday. It was convened by
Margaret Mclnroy in the form of a
mystery tour. Members stopped at
Beyond the Garden Path and
browsed through their store and
garden to see the unique selection of
lawn and garden ornaments, bird
baths, fountains, benches and one-
of-a-kind giftware. It is located just
went of Blyth on County Rd. 25.
After returning to Margaret’s
home for the business, minutes were
read by Leona McDonald. Helen
Craig gave health tips.
It was decided to put in an exhibit
on different garlic items. This will
be in charge of Brenda Perrie at the
Brussels Fall Fair.
It was a good day for the 41st
McCall Reunion held in the Walton
Hall. People gathered for the noon
meal. Bill Young said grace
followed by a smorgasbord.
The business was led by Manon
Young. Officers for the coming year
are: past president, Marion Young;
president, Lois McCall; first vice,
Alex Macdougall; secretary, Doreen
McCall; lunch, Joan and David
Perrie.
In charge of contests were Isobel
Burke and helper. Prizes went to:
large jar of candies, Doreen
Hackwell; small jar of candies, Jean
Bewley; can of fruit. Bill Young;
small can flaked ham, Betty McCall;
can peas, Doreen McCall; can
pumpkin, Jarred McCall; birthday in
January, Marion Young; anniversary
in March, Sherri and Murray
McCall.
It was voted to have only the noon
meal next year on the third Sunday
of August.
In July 2001 a newsletter/
questionnaire will be sent to each
family involved to remind them
about the reunion.
Guests were present from
Brussels, Blyth, Carleton Place,
Cranbrook, Seaforth, Campbellville,
Point Clark and Walton.
Several remained for the supper
meal when one of the McCall clan.
Pat Somers arrived with a treat of
chicken. The day was enjoyed
reminiscing and looking at many
pictures of the recent years.
Up and over
Bird watchers to aid scientists
With dry conditions, racers at the Walton TransCan Grand
National Championship only had to contend with dust as
they flew around the track at the Lee farm in Grey Twp. One
of the most successful events to date, attendance and
participation numbers are expected to be at least as good
as last year.
Bird Studies Canada and the
Canadian Nature Federation are
calling on bird enthusiasts from
across the country to help monitor
winter birds in Canada. You can
participate in this important bird
research - without ever leaving
home - by joining Project Feeder
Watch.
Founded in 1976 as the Ontario
Bird Feeder Survey, Project
FeederWatch now has over 15,000
participants across North America.
These FeederWatchers tell scientists
how winter bird populations are
growing or declining and how their
continent-wide distributions are
changing - information that is
crucial to effective bird conservation
programs. Project FeederWatch is a
joint project of Bird Studies Canada,
the Canadian Nature Federation, the
Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology
and the National Audubon Society.
It's easy to become a
FeederWatcher. Just watch birds at
your backyard feeder once every
two weeks from November tl rough
March. Count the kinds and
numbers of birds you see, record the
information on FeederWatch data
forms, and send the forms back to
Bird Studies Canada in the spring
for analysis. Or, enter your data
through our interactive web page
and, at the same time, keep track of
everybody’s results.
Participating in Project
FeederWatch is easy, and for an
annual $25 registration fee,
participants receive the
FeederWatch instruction booklet,
resource manual, data forms, a bird
calendar, a beautiful poster of
common feeder birds, and three
issues of the newsletter BirdWatch
Canada, as well as the Bird Studies
Canada Annual Report. Bird Studies
Canada is an independent, non
profit research institute studying
birds and their habitats for
conservation.
Make the winter months a lot
more fun by watching birds at your
feeder, and turn a backyard hobby
into valuable conservation research
by joining Project FeederWatch.
