FROM AUBURN Rev. talks On Aug. 13 a musical prelude with Bernice Gross, organist welcomed the congregation to the Knox United service. Rev. Paul Ross gave an invitation to worship. Rev. Ross's mystery bag contained a dolphin puppet which was shown to the congregation. It is now used as a golf club protector. Scripture was given from II Corinthians. God gave the kingdom to David forever. Then in Mark 6 Jesus was surprised that no one believed but still He and his disciples continued teaching. Rev. Ross’s sermon was What's Good about Failing? He spoke about Story time Pastor Dave Wood, seated at left, and an assistant led the children through a participatory tale during the Huron Chapel Evangelical Missionary Church, Auburn, Bible school program. of falling golf and how easily some accepted defeat while others considered it a real failure. However there is always failure in a game and one must continue working. God is always there. He also spoke about school education and curriculum. There are parents who accept a child’s poor report and try to give them help in that subject while others condemn. No one is perfect in everything and all children are different personalities, he said. All anyone should ask for is that they give their best effort. Offering was received and presented by Gregory Park. PEOPLE AROUND AUBURN By Kay Lapp Coll 526-7264 This was the second week of service at Knox United as Rev. Paul Ross returned on Aug. 6 after his summer vacation. We are glad that he had a nice holiday and happy that United Services have resumed for Auburn. Mr. and Mrs. J. Delbergue, Auburn invited friends and neighbours to a barbecue at their home on July 26. Everyone had an enjoyable time. Some of course were unable to attend due to other appointments for which they are very sorry. The seniors dinner at Blyth Anglican Church on Friday, Aug. 4 was laughter day. Effie McCall, Blyth and Marion Haggitt, Auburn were the two lucky winners of the draw to everyone’s pleasure. When we entered the church we had been greeted by a clown. Talk Hullett Twp. to aid purchase of windows for Auburn Hall Auburn Hall will have a new look with the assistance of Hullett council. Council approved a $1,000 grant at the Aug. 1 session to help with the replacement of the windows. Council objected to a severance application because the transaction does not conform to the township’s secondary plan which states that the residence must be surplus to a farm operator residing on an area farm. about laughing - we could not stop when Mrs. Clown entertained. Her prize mischief was when she called up six volunteers from the crowd. They did not know what they were going to do but soon found out to everyone’s pleasure, it was simply a riot. No one could stop laughing. The crowd was delighted and showed their appreciation. The roof nearly came off the Hall with their applause. The super lady clown was thanked by the hostess who said that never before had she heard such thunderous applause and laughter for the entertainment. It is something that will be remembered. The volunteers were from Aubum and Blyth and are also to be thanked. The senior Lapps were guests on the July 26 weekend at the home of a nephew, William Wood and his wife and family. It was a gathering of the clan at Brampton. Other nephews and their families were present from Milton, Montreal and London. It was a real family get-together. Their mother Ledianne Wood was also present. The community is pleased to know that Hazel Craig is on the improving list again. We all pray and trust that she will continue to recover. Road Superintendent Jim Johnston was authorized to obtain quotes for a 10 kilowatt gas powered generator and sub panel. The clerk-treasurer and office assistant will attend a two-day workshop on public sector public account board training in London, Aug. 28-29. Accounts payable in the amount of $70,073.84 were approved for payment.
