The 73rd Higgins Reunion
was held on July 30 at the
Belgrave Women's Institute
Hall with 85 in attendance.
There were children's games
in the afternoon prior to
lunch.
President Greg Higgins
welcomed everyone and
asked for a moment’s silence
for members lost since the
last reunion.
Prizes were given out to the
oldest, Carmen Farrier; the
youngest, Loretta Higgins;
coming the farthest, Brian and
Brenda Jones, Victoria, BC;
closest age to 73, Don
Higgins and the candy guess,
Ashley Higgins.
The elections for the next
reunion in two years were
held. The new president will
be Arthur Fitch.
Family members attended
from Barrie, Stayner,
Stratford, Waterloo, Belgrave,
Belmore and British
Columbia.
Supper was then served and
enjoyed by all.
A public meeting was held
in conjunction with the Aug. 2
session of Morris council to
discuss a zoning amendment.
Under consideration was an
amendment for South Part Lot
26, Cone. 6 would which see
the zoning changed from
AGL general agriculture to
AGA 16, agricultural small
holding-special provisions.
The rezoning is part of a con
sent application for the cre
ation of two parcels of land.
The zoning would recog
nize the existing residence
and the frontage. Under AG4
zoning, the minimum
frontage is 23 metres or 73
feet.
However, the amendment
would allow a frontage of just
nine metres or 30 feet for the
laneway.
The retained parcel is 39.3
hectares or 97.2 acres with a
barn to be demolished.
The residential lot is 1.12
hectares or 2.8 acres with a
residence, two accessory
buildings a driveshed and
pumphouse.
To accommodate a I0-foot
separation between the
sewage system and lot line,
the lot line will be moved.
A bylaw was passed to
allow the rezoning. The barn
is to be removed within two
years and a drainage agree
ment will be drawn.
A bylaw was given first and
second readings for the 9-1-l
road names.
Wingham PUC will inspect
the water systems in Belgrave
monthly and receive a copy of
the weekly water test results.
The agreement for the
North Huron/Wescast com
plex was tabled and filed
though notes regarding items
of concern were included. The
transition board will consider
the Knights of Columbus
agreement as well as the name
of the complex.
It will be suggested to the
complex board that Morris
Twp.’s contribution to the
complex be based on usage as
with the Brussels and Blyth
community, centre agree
ments. This recommendation
is subject to the transition
board’s approval.
Council will sponsor an ad
for the Wescast opening in the
amount of $100 and for the
