Safety First needs new logo Safety First Huron Perth, formerly known as the Huron Perth Injury Prevention Committee, is seeking a logo design idea to go with their new name. Residents from Huron and Perth Counties are invited to mail or fax submission; by Sept II. A $50 cash prize will be awarded to the winner and presented on Sept. 20 at the Mitchell Golf and Country Club. After the award presentation. Dr. Robert Conn from Smartrisk Foundation will present Injuries: The Personal and Financial Cost. For the past five years, Safety First Huron Perth has ben dedicated to the message that most injuries are pre­ dictable and preventable. The group focuses on four main areas - motor vehicle occupant safety, bicycle safe­ ty. falls in seniors and farm safety. Members include the District Health Council, Huron County Health Unit. Perth District Health Unit, Ontario Provincial Police, Ontario Ministry of Transportation, Farm Safety groups, health care workers, community agencies and volunteers, New members and sup­ porters interested in injury preven­ tion are always welcome. Safety First Huron Perth will reserve the right to modify the win­ ning logo design. Members of Safety First Huron Perth and their immediate families are not eligible to enter. (Vicky Bremner photo) Business Di Jduron Video and Sound Computer Sales and Service Obituaries MELVIN SHOEMAKER Melvin Shoemaker mf Braemar Retirement Home, Wingham, passed away on Friday July, 28, 2000, at his residence. He was 83. He was the husband of the late Vina Welsh (1970) and dear father of Dennis and his wife Eleanor of Walkerton, Orlin and his wife Carol of Blyth, and Sharlene Brown and her friend Harold of Brucefield. He is also remembered by son-in-law Walter Brown and his friend Aldme of Hodgville Sask., 20 grandchildren. 16-great-grandchildren and 2 great­ great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by one son Wayne, one daughter Melba and one grandson Raymond. Friends were received at the Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home 87 Goderich St. W. Seaforth on Sunday, July 30 from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service was held at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m., with interment at Southampton cemetery on Monday at 2 p.m. Auxiliary plans blood donor clinic The Wingham and District Hospital Auxiliary discussed prepa­ rations for an upcoming blood donor clinic at the June meeting. The clin­ ic will be held at F. E Madill Secondary School, Aug. 24. Anyone wishing to contribute a batch of plain cookies to the Aug. 24 clinic is asked to call Marion at 357- 3504 immediately. There was a letter of thanks from the hospital board to the auxiliary for the donation of $6,000. A thank you letter will be sent to Barry Reid Associates for auditing the auxiliary books. Evelyn Galbraith graciously offered her home for the annual fall tea which will be held Sept. 11. Helen McKague, gift shop con­ venor, encouraged members and others to stop by the gift shop at the hospital. It was noted that teen volunteers continue to be actively helping at the hospital. It was decided to increase the annual bursary to a Madill student from $300 to $500. President Brenda Anger presented information from the board meeting. The next meeting will be held Monday, Sept. 25.
