(Vicky Bremner photo) Morris, Brussels to meet with chiefs Morris Twp. council will hold a meeting Sept. 5 with the Village of Brussels, the Ontario fire marshall, Blyth Fire Chief Paul Josling and Wingham Fire Chief Harley Gaunt to resolve the fire call issue. Morris council had asked for clari­ fication with regards to responses to three fire calls from earlier in the year. Brussels Fire Chief Murray McArter and Brussels council had sent a letter of reply. A motion recommending represen­ tation on the Wingham area fire board be two from North Huron, two from Morris-Turnberry and two from Howick was approved at the Ethel euchre was held on July 24 with 15 tables in play. It was hosted by Bob and Margaret Bateman. The next euchre will be held on Aug. 7. July 18 meeting, subject to agree­ ment by the transition board. Council will seek two quotes for 9- 1 -1 stickers and order 5,000. Maitland Engineering Services will be hired to prepare a report about the Belgrave well system as requested by the Ministry of Environment. An application will be made to the MOE for an amendment to the cer­ tificate of approval for the Belgrave wells to allow the addition of proper­ ties on Hamilton and Jane Streets. It was recommended the cost for con­ necting the properties be spread over three years. Council received letters from Turnberry and East Wawanosh Twps., expressing no objections to the Wingham sewer and water agree­ ment. The bylaw was given final read­ ing. A response from Brussels council regarding future use of the landfill site will by sought by the end of August. Road Superintendent Lloyd Michie told council he had spoken to a representative from Wescast and there was no concern about the loca­ tion of the gate along Industrial Road. A motion was passed to have the gate placed on township property, off Industrial Road to the west, before the Town of Wingham lane. Morris will erect a dead end sign and a no trespassing sign on township property at the end of Industrial Road. Paul Stephen of Innovative Security Systems attended the meet­ ing, submitting a quote of $1,165 for a security system. No decision was made. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 2, 2000. PAGE 9. U-6 Blackhawks win 1,lose 1 The Brussels U-6 Blackhawks took to the playing field against Team I recently. Jacob McGavin p.layed centre with Evan Smith and Heather Bone as forwards. They moved the ball quickly making shots on net. Mackenzie McGavin and Nathan Thompson played hard trying to keep the ball out defensively. The game ended 4-0 for Team I. On July 26 the Blackhawks played Team 4. Sharing goaltending for the game was Derek Wood, Jarod Logan, Nathan Thompson and Nathan Watson. Watson took centre with Jamee Johnston and Janessa Smith as for­ wards. Watson made a great kick to start the game, getting some great Lightning strikes for 2 wins, 1 tie The Blyth Lightning soccer squad has had success in recent weeks. They met Clinton Titans, June 20, earning a 5-5 tie. Blyth took a huge lead in the first half, tallying four while holding Clinton to one. However, the scoring was reversed in the second half. Scoring for Blyth were Darren Bouman (three), John Bokhout and Michael Elliott. Bokhout (two) and Bouman both earned assists. On June 27, Goderich Legion vis­ ited. A strong early effort by Blyth sus­ tained them for the win as Elliott, Bokhout and Ben Walsh scored in the first with Walsh adding his sec­ ond in the final half. U-lls lose to Newton The Newton team slipped by the Brussels U-ll Aces when they took to the field, July 25. Scoring for Brussels in the 3-2 loss were Trevor McArter and Jordan Campbell. Brandon Kellington assisted on the first goal. A great running game by Kyle Griffith, Chris Barton and Andrew Van Vliet kept the team close while Ami Schimanski and William King provided some great set-ups as for­ wards and Devon Warwick as a defender, said coach Jennie Schimanski. GRADUATION Tim Machan has successfully completed the Plumbing Apprenticeship. He is employ­ ed with Dale Machan Plumbing, Heating & Electrical Ltd. Congratulations, love, Dad, Mom, Steve, Michelle & Mark. shots on net. Logan and Bone moved the ball out defensively with Bone doing a head ball after a throw-in. In the second half Woods and Drew McKee moved to forward. McKee made a shot on net and Woods moved in to gain control and score two. McKee kept the ball forward for Evan Smith who made shots on net. Waiting defensively were Kelsey Smith and Janessa Smith. Kelsey gained control and moved it for­ ward. Johnston made a great throw- in which ended the game. The Blackhawks took the win of 3-1. Their next game is Aug. 2 (tonight). Elliott got an assist in the 5-3 win. Holding the Lucknow Lancers off the board in the first half of their July 11 match allowed Blyth to secure the 4-1 victory. Scoring for Blyth were Blake Hesselwood (on a penalty shot), Ben Caldwell, Elliott and Bokhout. Bokhout also assisted on a netter. Travelling to Lucknow, July 18 to take on the Knechtels, the teams were tied at one after the first half on a goal by Blyth’s Bouman. Blyth jumped ahead in the second half, hitting the net for three while keeping Lucknow to one. Helping with the 5-1 win were scorers Jory-Lynn Uyl, Bouman (two), and Elliott. Assists went to Walsh and Uyl. Lacey and Kristen McArter were strong as halfbacks. Travis Jutzi on defense and Cayli Hunt showed some great passing skills.
