Oh my, August is here - ball and soccer tournaments, summer strolls to enjoy the neighbourhood gardens, a drive in the country to see the ripening grain in all its splendour, the many shades of green as beans and corn develop, and the holiday plans that take in weddings and school kids. Yes, August. (I’m pack ing for Alberta for 12 days - yippee!) If you catch Doreen Rutledge this week give her a birthday squeeze. She’ll tell you how many she’s earned. Rumour has it Jack Overholt is 50 or he’s starting a campground plumbing business. I'm sure he’ll tell you the truth. I hope you attended the mural unveiling on Friday. The village staff and business volunteers did a fine job of welcoming and feeding the crowd. It’s a terrific mural and a good reminder that as we grow and develop into Huron East our proud roots will always be Brussels. When you stand in the LCBO parking lot, faces and names flash as you study the panels - the church steeple, the vehicles, the faces in the band, the mill, the river. Each of us has memories and pride in our com munity and each of us sees the mural with our own eyes and minds. Enjoy! I hope you have a great August, I intend to and so won’t be writing again till month’s end. Bye now, Betty G. VV.
