The executive held its monthly meeting Sunday while preparing the fish for the Fish Fry in Wingham. The hard working group cooked fish for 200 on Sunday evening and com­ pliments abounded on the delicious A NOTE FROM BETTY FROM BRUSSELS By JoAnn McDonald Well, it was a busy weekend at the Brussels Legion Branch. There was a great crowd on Friday night for sup­ per. Later in the weekend nine tables of euchre players competed. The first prize went to Stuart and Lois School says thanks to rec board The BMG board of recreation management received a letter of thanks from Brussels Public School Principal Paul Dyck, thanking them for the use of the kitchen facilities and manager Murray McArter’s help for the Grade 8 graduation. The accounts payable approved by the rec board at the July 12 session included $7,346.20 for the new sound system in the arena, $224.37 for tank tops for the lifeguards and $521 for a spine board for the pool. The singles dancers had a great time dancing to Blue Diamond Trio. Well the summer is half shot and I’m still waiting for the hot days of July. Loving God was the theme for the Kids Comer this year. Crafts, songs, diama, stories and games filled the afternoons for the children from the area - on average 89 kids. To show their act of kindness the children's daily offering was used to purchase health kits for the poor in our world. A cloth bag made by our volunteers co-ordinated by Yvonne Dettweiller was filled with a toothbrush, tooth­ paste, a towel, soap and nail clippers. Each kit cost about $11 and we were able to send 68 kits. It was a good time for everyone. The Anglican folk were busy feed­ ing the masses on Sunday with their pork chop dinner. Good stuff. The Troupe, consisting of Joelle Martin, Carla Froese, Michelle Jantzi, Sarah Pinnell and Kristi Procter (of Brussels Mennonite) came from congre­ gations across southern Ontario to lead the week-long program before attending eight more sessions this summer. This year’s theme was Loving God By... kindness, prayer, making peace, loving others and listening. BRIDGE - BOVEN Shirley Ann Bridge and Michael James Boven were united in marriage on February 5th, 2000 at the Blyth United Church. Pastor Les Cook officiated. The bride is the daughter of Karen and Harold Bridge of Brussels and the groom is the son of Helen and Henry Hummel, Blyth and the late Albert Boven. Lara Graber, friend of the bride was matron of honour and Doug Campbell, friend of the groom was best man. Candlelighters were Colleen Paranyi, sister of the bride and Laura Johnston, friend of the bride. Ushers were Kelly Boven and Casey Boven, brothers of the groom and Dwayne Pryce, friend of the groom. April VanAmersfoort, cousin of the groom was the pianist at the ceremony. Following the ceremony an open reception was held at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre. Joe Ryan, friend of the couple acted as master of ceremonies. Shirley Ann and Mike now reside at RR #1 Blyth.
