Duffs, Bluevale welcome new minister Newest minister Walton and Bluevale United Churches welcomed Joan Tuchlinsky to their congregations as their new minister. By Janice Becker Citizen staff The congregations of Duff’s United and Bluevale United wel comed a new minister to the commu nity recently. Diaconal minister Joan Tuchlinsky, originally from Kitchener-Waterloo was pleased when she learned she would be placed in the rural commu nity. “I loved the sense of community life my family had in Kitchener and I have already experienced it here.” Tuchlinsky along with husband Brian Black and three of their five children moved into the Walton manse last week. Jeffery, 14, Laura 11 and Bethany, nine, will be attending Seaforth Public School in the fall. Seventeen year-old Steven will be staying with family friends in Kitchener to com plete his high school education and 19-year-old Jennifer lives on her own. Specializing in education, pastoral care and service and community out reach, Tuchlinsky says she hopes to help the community heal after the closure of the Walton Public School. She was involved in a similar fight to keep her son’s Grade 7/8 school open and understands the feelings. After speaking with parents and Walton Public School principal Alice McDowell, Tuchlinsky says the com munity has made a “healthy start to move on.” Tuchlinsky has been studying for the past six years, five at the Centre for Christian Studies for theological training for diaconal ministry. She will also be working towards a bach elor of theology degree through the University of Waterloo. “My job is to empower the lay ministry to do the work, to help and support them,” she says. She was a lay minister for some time before answering the call to the ministry. She worked 10 hours per week as a pastoral minister at Trinity United in downtown Kitchener as well as for Family and Children's Services. Having studied social work at Conestoga College, she found the faith element was missing. It was this realization which took her into dia conal training because it encompass es community work as well as the faith aspect. / Husband Black will be leaving Manulife Financial after 14 years, but he is looking forward to the change. An avid tenor singer, he hopes to expand his involvement in that field as well as use his computer experience to benefit the community, she says. Tuchlinsky gave her first services at Duff's United and Bluevale United this past Sunday. Laughter, the Best Medicine1* Our family decided to enjoy the beauty of the Kananaskis region in Alberta on cross-country skis We split up as our son and daughter went off to rent skis, and my husband, Bill, and I put on some warmer clothes. When we finally rejoined the kids, our fashion conscious daughter eyed her approaching father warily. Bill was a cacophony of colours, topped off with a huge, outdated toque and sunglasses he had bought ten years earlier. "Now 1 know why it took you so long," my daughter said. "Dad had to go back to the '70s to get his outfit." — Wynne Edwards www.rcadcrsdigcst.ca Business Large & Small Trucks fridgecarts - piano dollys- moving blankets Complete Selection of Cars Our rates qualify for insurance replacement Passenger Vans full size or mini STRICKLANDS . 344 Huron Rd. 524-9381 . \GODERICH 1-800-338-1134 ,7 RESIDENTIAL • COMMERCIAL • AGRICULTURAL Complimentary Estimates, Drawings and Consultation Frank Workman) Electric 20 years serving Brussels & area Over 25 years experience - Licensed Carpenter EVERT STRYKER RR #4 Brussels (519) 887-9291 C dTj A CONSTRUCTION •Farm »Home •Commercial General Carpentry Roofing New Buildings & Renovations \^Jim McDonald 887-9607^ Donald Ives General Contractor Berg Farm Equipment ^Brussels 887-9024^ fMOBILE Oll?i SPRAYING ♦ ♦ ♦ Phone 345-2862 Steve Fritzley 527-2272 Dwayne Pryce 527-2097 * Calcium Dust Control * Rust Protection - Oil Undercoating Fast, Reliable Service J Products also available > at Radford Auto & McGavin Farm y x. _______Equipment Ltd. y ff ALLAN FRETZA WELDING & REPAIR Tel: (519) 887-9707 Fax: (519) 887-9163 ’ Custom Built Loaders ‘ Tractor Attachments ' Buckets' Bucket cutting edge replacement ■ Bucket quick fit plates ’ Stone or Manure Forks ’ Pallet Forks ’ Lawn Sprayers Snow or Silage Blades (plastic) RR #3 Brussels (Jholdice i J Insurance Ltd.
