Obituaries WILLIAM JOHN PHELAN William “John” Phelan of Braemar Retirement Centre, Wingham, formerly of Morris Twp., passed away June 25, 2000, in his 89th year. Mr. Phelan was bom June 5, 1912, to John and Bridget Healy of Morris Twp. A farmer his entire life, he was also a member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Blyth. He was the dear brother of Rita (Mrs, Charles Rolls) of Stratford and Gerard Phelan of Londesboro. He is survived by several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Mr. Phelan was predeceased by two sisters, Cecilia Diveney and Mary McCaughey and one brother Joseph Phelan. Visitation took place at the Blyth Visitation Centre of Beattie- Falconer Funeral Home, June 27. Funeral mass was celebrated at St. Michael’s on June 28. Father Dino Salvador officiated. Great-nieces Meghan O’Neil and Police investigate industrial accident On June 26 shortly after 2 p.m. police were called to an industrial accident at a farm on Canada Company Rd. in McKillop Twp. Officers found that a man had been working on the top of a trans port trailer removing Soya meal. He slipped while doing this and fell approximately 15 feel onto a rock hurting his lower back hip area. The Serina Phelan carried the floral trib utes. Pallbearers were nephews Pat Phelan, Joe Phelan, John O'Neil, Paul O’Neil, Dennis Hamm and neighbour Peter Kelly. Interment was at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Morris Twp. SARAH JANE ANDERSON Mrs. Sarah Anderson of Morris Twp. passed away at Huronlea, Brussels on Monday, June 26, 2000. She was 96. The former Sarah Young was the beloved wife of the late Earl Anderson who predeceased her in 1974. She was the dear mother of Patricia Hunking of Auburn, Audrey and Bill Schreiber of Milton, Muriel and Ed Hartlin of Kingston, Jim and Delvia Anderson of Guelph, Keith and Jean Anderson of Fergus and Karen and Tom Moy of Mississauga. She was the sister of Clara Black of Campbeilville. Mrs. Ajiderson is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her son- man crawled to the cab and called for assistance. An ambulance attended the scene and removed the injured man to the Seaforth Hospital for medical atten tion. John Graham, 46, of Palmerston was admitted with hip injuries. The Ministry of Labour has been called to investigate. in-law Ted Hunking, her grandsons, Eric Moy and Murray Walsh, her sis ters Ella Greene, Ruth Badour, Olga Young and Hazel Young and her brother Burton Young. Mrs. Anderson was born in Westport, Ontario on Sept. 3, 1903. Sarah was a graduate of Queens University (B.A. 1923). She-tayght high school in Grimsby prior to farming with her husband Earl in Morris Twp. Sarah was a life-long member of Knox United Church, Belgrave and a life member of both the Belgrave Women’s Institute and Knox UCW. Visitation was at McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham, Ontario on Wednesday, June 28 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral service was held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ethel Miner Clare officiating. Honorary pallbearer was George Michie. Flowerbearers were Leo Sanders and Glenn Van Camp. Pallbearers were six grandsons Craig Moy, Jeff Anderson, Robert Hunking, Craig, John and Mark Schreiber. Interment was in Brandon Monuments 335 Main St. West Listowel, Ontario N4W 1A4 Eterrtaf Memorial Superior Craftsmen Cemetery, East Wawanosh Twp. GOWING Howard Gowing of 119 King St., Tiverton passed away at the Kincardine Hospital on Saturday, June 10, 2000. He was a businessman in Tiverton from 1949 until this year. He was a member of the Tiverton Fire Department for over 20 years. Howard Gowing was born in Palmerston on April 20, 1924. He was the son of Melvin Gowing and the former Georgina Wooddisse. He spent most of his growing up years in the Brussels area. He married Irene Curie of Belmore on Sept. 25, 1948 at the Knox Presbyterian Church in Belmore. He is fondly remembered by his wife Irene, son John and his wife Katherine of Tiverton and grandchil dren Susan, Andrew and Leanne Gowing. Pallbearers were Ted Roberts, Ed Roberts, Gordon Bradley, Donald Ruthven, Earl McConnell and Kenneth Craig. Interment was in Tiverton Cemetery.
