FROM AUBURN Silver Tops attend social The Silver Tops had a most enjoy­ able evening at Fordwich where they attended a strawberry social at the United Church there. It was a full course meai of turkey; ham with all the trimmings, excel­ lent. Then came bowls heaping with deep red delicious strawberries. You helped yourself and they coaxed you to have more. To top that were love­ ly iced cupcakes and a variety of squares. Everyone enjoyed the deli­ cious meal. Fordwich United must be well known as people were there from many areas. The Silver Tops then went to the home of Marg and Ron Livermore. They have a lovely house and a beautiful garden. Margaret Livermore is Lois and the late Don Haines’ daughter. Needless to say they were both involved in the social. B. Gross, organist at Knox Music prelude at Knox United invited the congregation and guests to worship. Bemice Gross was the organist. Following the hymn / Need Thee Every Hour the Bible was read from Daniel 3 on the three men who were thrown into a fiery furnace yet were unhurt. The second lesson was I Corinthians 3 on laying a foundation and the building on it. The third reading was from Mark 13, on the importance of Him in every nation and the need of teaching this. Rev. Paul Ross’s sermon was on Those were the Days and the teach­ ing of Jesus and the importance of following His word. Collecting was taken by Ell Lapp. Linda Plaetzer is thanked for four boxes of crayons, books, etc. sup­ plied for the children’s use. Check out our WEBSITE at www.northhuron.on.ca Solemn occasion A time for memories and visiting was held at Ball’s Cemetery on Sunday with the annual memorial service. Following the service in the chapel, people spent time visiting with each other and remembering loved ones. (Vicky Bremner photo) Ball’s Cemetery holds memorial service The 74th memorial service was held at the Ball’s Chapel on July 2 with good attendance. Rev. Paul Ross welcomed everyone. Margaret Kai of Wingham was organist. Rev. Ross led in prayer. Scripture was read from Genesis on Jacob and Rachel and from Matthew. Rev. Ross spoke of the quiet beau­ ty and sacredness of cemetery grounds. “We value the lives of those who have passed away. They will always be remembered,” he said. A moment for remembering those DHC elects June 22 at the annual meeting of the Grey Bruce Huron Perth District Health Council, Jeff Wilbee of Stratford was elected as DHC chair. Wilbee takes over from Bob Caesar who has been the chair of the DHC since its inception in the spring of 1998. As part of his final address to the health council, Caesar said “The Grey Bruce Huron Perth DHC is one of the best in the province and we have accomplished much in two years. I know that the DHC will con­ tinue to flourish under Jeff Wilbee’s leadership. As the incoming chair, Jeff has my complete support.” Wilbee has been active as a volun­ teer DHC board member for many years. Starting in 1992 he was appointed chair of the Perth County Steering Committee which led to the creation of the Huron-Perth District Health Council. In 1994 he was elected as the first chair of the Huron-Perth DHC and for several years was active on the executive of Give Someone a Second Chance. Discuss organ donation with your family. The Kidney Foundation of Canada who are gone was held followed by prayer of thanks and concern. The Lord's Prayer was said in unison. Special memory is given for those buried in the past year, Mrs. Lois Rueger, Mrs. Helen Russell, Wm. J. (Bill) Raithby, Mrs. Frances Youngblut, John Kryzanowski, Mrs. Wilma Brawley and W. H. (Harry) Arthur. A number of thanks are to be given for special donations, repairing mon­ uments, and planting trees. The chapel is beautifully kept and the flowers for the service were beauti­ ful. new chair the Association of District Health Councils of Ontario. In 1998, he was appointed by the provincial govern­ ment to the board of the Grey Bruce Huron Perth DHC where he has served as its vice-chair. Outside his volunteer commit­ ments, Wilbee is the executive direc­ tor of two provincial organizations: “The Alcohol and Drug Recovery Association of Ontario and The Addiction Intervention Association (which is the Canadian Addiction Counselor’s Certification Board). The following executive officers of the DHC for 2000/2001 were also announced: Bob Caesar (Clifford), past-chair; Bob Mackey (Meaford), vice-chair; Pat Grant (Durham), treasurer; Deb Ritchie (Wingham), member-at-large; Ken Carmount (Tobermory), member-at-large. The DHC also welcomed two new board members who have just been appointed by the provincial govern­ ment: Harry Brightwell and Mary Lynn Priestap, both of Perth County. A good dis­ cussion was had on the Creed. Various goodies were served by the hostess and the finale was a plate of delicious fruits. Margaret was thanked for a very worthwhile serv­ ice. After the service at Ball’s Cemetery, Margaret and Donald Kai spent the rest of the day with Kay and Elliott Lapp. Graduation Debbie VanSteelandt, daugh­ ter of Frank and Dorothy VanSteelandt graduated from the University of Waterloo on June 14. Debbie received an Honours Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology (Co­ op), Dean’s Honours List. She will continue her studies this fall in the Bachelor of Education Program at Nipissing University. Congratulations Debbie. Love from your family. Thieves steal gas On June 29 at 8:30 a.m. Huron OPP officers were called to a resi­ dence in Hullett on Cone. 7 over a break-in to a barn. The officer found that a door sometime between 6:30 p.m. on June 28 and before 5:30 a.m. on June 29 had been pried open. Once inside the bam the person siphoned gasoline from a tractor. Officers are still investigating. If you have information that can assist the investigators please call the OPP office or call Crime Stoppers. Graduation Michael Bakker, son of Marinus and Margaret Bakker graduated with Honours from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Major Agricultural Economics. He has accepted a position with the Toronto Dominion Bank in Seaforth. Congratulations Michael, we are all very proud of you. Love, Mom, Dad, Ruth Anne, Karen and Mike. Congratulations Brendan Pierce On Wednesday June 28, 2000, Brendan graduated with honours from White Oaks Public School. He was the recipient of the Leadership and Citizenship Awards. He also received M.V.P. for baseball, track & field and volleyball. He was chosen Male Athlete Of The Year. He will be attending Laurier Secondary School.
