WELCOME Bluewater Kennel Club's All Breed Dog Shows and Obedience Trials at the Blyth Community Centre July 4, 5, & 6, 2000 Come watch daily from 9 a.m 5 p.m. Admission: Adults $2.00 Children $1.00 Proceeds to Huronia Branch of the Humane Society An annual event since 1979, the Bluewater Kennel Club's Dog Shows and Obedience Trials moved to Blyth in 1982. The facilities at Blyth have proven to be quite favourable, said Show Chairperson Florence Pullen. “It is good for the rings, the campers and then there's the wonderful food.” Unlike other dog shows where hot dogs and greasy food joint fare is often the norm, delicious home-cooked dinners are served up three times a day by area women. The show is part of a circuit that starts in Sarnia the previous weekend, then moves to Woodstock after the Blyth event. For the confirmation shows dogs are judged on how they move and how they are put together, Pullen explains. The dogs can’t be neutered or spayed. They gait around the ring and the judge watches their movement, then holds them for closer visual examination of their features. The dogs are shown as breeds in seven groups. Sporting dogs include the labs, retrievers, pointers, setters and spaniels. Beagles, bassets, whippets, afghans, etc. are judged in the hound group, while the working dog group includes Akitas, Siberian huskies, Alaskan malamutes, and mountain dogs to name a few. The fourth group is terriers and the fifth is toys. The dogs that don’t really fit in any other category are classified as non-sporting. Among these are the bichon friese, chow-chow, schipperke, shih tzu and Tibetan spaniel. Herding dogs, such as cattle and sheep dogs are the final group. The breeds are all shown individually within each group. Then a puppy and mature group winner is picked from the best of each. At the end of the day the group winners are put together for the selection of the best of show. Though everything is open to the general public, Pullen said the obedience trials, which begin in the morning are a highlight. The dogs compete in three levels, novice, open and utility. “The utility trials are really fun to watch. This is as high as you can go in obedience for dogs.” 5i>) Cparlinqs--' ■^1 PROPANE www.sparlings.com ‘Wetcomes the ‘Bbuewater ‘Rennet Chib ‘Dog Show to ‘Blyth We’ve got your Energy!
