Choral Kids sing at Blyth United service On Sunday, June 25 at the Blyth United Church, the Choral Kids pro­ vided music for the service. Greeter was Lois van Vliet. Ushering was David Sparling, Cliff Snell, Loma and Randy Fraser. Barb Bosman was the guest organist. Jane Meier was in charge of the nursery. The Choral Kids sang the anthem When You Believe from The Prince Kids get ready to paint the toivn of Egypt. Patty Ortman read the Gospel lesson, Mark 6: 1-13. The Epistle lesson was 2 Corinthians: 14- 7:1. In his sermon. Rev. Ernest Dow talked about different examples of barnacles. In the examples the barna­ cles were sin. He then explained that it was purity that he was talking about. Rev. Dow explained that there were two types of sin-barnacles. Attitudes are one. That “ is the con­ tamination of our spirit”. The other is attractions, which is the “contami­ nation of our body or physical appetites.” from 10 FROM BLYTH CUNTON PUBLIC HOSPITAL MATERNAL/CHILD PROGRAM NO FEE "BABYAND I" Children young and old will have the chance this Saturday morning to add a little colour to Blyth’s down­ town. The annual sidewalk chalk draw­ contest is being held a.m. until noon on Saturday, July 1. Registration is at The Citizen. There will be three prizes awarded in each of four age categories: seven and under, eight to 12, 13 to 18 and 19 to 99. Proud teachers Art teachers from several Huron and Perth secondary schools were on hand for the opening of the student art show at the Blyth Festival on Wednesday night. Chatting with show curator Ron Walker (left) are Julie Hansen, Seaforth District High School; Paul McMullen, Goderich District Collegiate Institute; Shannon Krueplin, St. Anne’s, Clinton and Trish Menheere, Bluewater Secondary School. The show continues at Memorial Hall all summer long. Admission is free. This past weekend, “Blooming Blyth” was booming! It all began on Friday night for the grand opening of the theatre and a new art exhibit. On Saturday afternoon the Blyth Lions and motorcyclists fundraised for children for the fifth year in a row. The motorcyclists from across the province participated in Santa’s Summer Ride. Chapter 14 of Huron Perth ABATE (Association of Bikers for Awareness, Training and Education) lent their support to the event again. Brian Garnet of Blyth mentioned earlier that he had been involved in rides in other areas and saw the need when he moved to Huron County. Numerous events were included in this year’s event along with the fundraising ride. In order for the rid­ ers to take part in the Ride they donate a new toy, school supplies or clothes for teens to toddlers. Of course, cash donations are never refused. Bev Blair won the $500 elimina­ tion draw prize. The profit from the Lions goes to the Huron County Christmas Bureau. Numerous items were donated by the people of Blyth. The 10th annual fishing derby was Sunday, compliments of Doug and Diane Scrimgeour and families. Special guest was Everett. Scrimgeour of Blyth who has never missed it. Also present was Lila Radford of Goderich. Tickets for hot dogs and a drink, compliments of Blyth Legion were given out. Each person participating also received tickets for “gate” prizes provided by Canadian Tire and the Legion. Alex Blair and Bruce Mason directed the traffic on the highway to allow everyone to get to and from the event. Of the 65 fish caught the winners were: largest and smallest fish in each age group: boys, two to five, largest, Michael Van Wyk, smallest, Billy Higgs; boys, six to nine, Trevor Ritchie, Brian Higgs and Adam Lamb tied for the smallest; 10 - 12, Michael Keffer and Greg Bauers; 13-15 Nick Stryker, who was also the overall winner with the biggest fish and Mark Caldwell. For the girls: two to five, Victoria Howatt and Kailyn Braber; six to nine, Chantelle Warwick and Trisha Deitner; 10 - 12 Nikki Hill and Laura Bowers. There were no partic­ ipants for the 13 - 15 year old girls. The fish were measured and cleaned by Rod Furness and Don Elliott. A special mention goes out to Dylan Bruxer of Seaforth who returned the fish to the pond after it was measured. Cameron Nicholson of Lucknow was excited about his catch, a large snapping turtle. In the 10 years of this event, this was the first time this has occurred. NOTICE 4!
