Entertainment^ Leisure Celebrate century of hats at Doon fashion show Spit and polish The Friends of Doon Heritage Crossroads will be hosting a vintage hat fashion show presented by The Mobile Millenary Museum and sponsored in part by Nurses in Touch, on Thursday, July 6 at 7 p.m. A century ago, proper etiquette and fashion required that a lady or gentleman wear a hat when they left the house. Today, health concerns make it a very wise decision to wear a head covering when taking part in outdoor activities. Enjoy a summer evening of tun and wonder as hat fashions from throughout the century will be dis played and explored. Participants are encouraged to wear a hat from their own closet to explore its origin, care and handling. Tickets should be purchased in advance and can be ordered over the phone with Visa or MasterCard - $10 per person. Love from your family & friends “Carrots!” Canada’s favourite red-head from Green Gables is coming to the Blyth Festival. Ledoux said, “I was captivated by the story of Marilla and Mathew, the lonely brother and sister whose hearts were opened by a little girl with a head full of daydreams.” Having been touched by the mini series on CBC-TV, he decided to adapt a non-musical stage version. Anne of Green Gables has delighted Canadians for almost 100 years. The story has been translated into numer ous languages and performed all over the world. “Anne’s undefeatable optimist keeps inspiring audiences of every generation,” said Artistic Director Anne Chislett. Cast in the starring role of Anne Shirley is Samantha Reynolds of Toronto, no stranger to the Blyth Festival, having appeared in That Summer and Every Dream last sea son. The high school art exhibit opens at 6:30 p.m. with remarks from curator Ron Walker. The guests will then partake a preview of Anne, adapted by Paul Leoux from the novel Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery. -One aspect of the high school art exhibit is that until the courier arrives with the entire collection of pieces in hand, the curator has no idea what has been chosen, what it looks like, or of what it consists. The artwork can be two or three dimen- sional, and is selected by the stu dents’ teachers. Tourism Night is an opportunity for representatives of a wide variety of tourist sites to enjoy a profession al performance at the Blyth Festival, celebrate the talent of local artistic youths, and carry the feeling of com munity back to their own patrons.
