Corey Campbell of Brussels finished second in his category. Squirts romp over Walton Locals do well at meet It was a romp for Blyth Squirt Boys when they travelled to Walton June 12. The first inning the home squad was in control with Walton taking a 3-1 lead. In the second Kyle Nixon doubled on an error, then stole. A walk was issued to Eric Caldwell who also stole. With two runs crossing the plate they went into the home half tied. Walton was held back in the bot­ tom half, then Blyth’s Trevor Hopf started the third with a walk. Josh Albrechtas got on board after being hit by a pitch, then Hopf stole home to give Blyth the lead. Albrechtas repeated the performance to put his team up by two, before Nixon sin­ gled and Caldwell and Dickie Greig walked, The hosts again failed to bring any runners in in the bottom half of the inning, allowing Blyth to continue to build their lead. Cook singled then stole. A walk was issued to Hopf, then Albrechtas doubled. Anthony Peters dropped down a bunt to get to first and Albrechtas stole home to score. After a scoreless home half, Blyth -continued to break open the score. A Blaeldiawks shut out Brussels U-6 IV team On Wednesday, June 14 the Brussels U-6 Blackhawks took on Team 4. Nathan Watson centre, took con­ trol of the ball scoring his first of three goals for the game. Garret Logan and Drew McKee for­ wards, kept the ball moving up for Watson. Nathan Thompson and Janessa Smith played defence keeping the ball out when a shot was taken on lead-off double to Hopf was fol­ lowed by a bunt single from Blake Miller. Hopf stole and Peters dou­ bled before the inning ended with five runs scored. Walton managed one in their half of the inning, but Blyth took this one 13-4. Pitchers were Cook and Albrechtas for Blyth with Kyle Gibson going the distance for Walton. On June 15 the Squirts hosted Colborne and sent them home defeated 15-7. Colborne got on board first when a runner stole home. Blyth scored two in the home half to take a narrow lead. In the second inning Colborne managed to tie it, but three runs from Blyth capped by a Hopf homerun widened the gap. Other hits went to Justin Ritchie with a single, Miller with a double and a triple by Mark McCracken. Going into the home half of the third, Blyth had a commanding 9-3 lead, but failed that inning to add more. Highlights of the bottom of the fourth included two runs when Peters and Hopf stole home and a Jacob McGavin who stopped and moved the ball back out into play. Derek Wood gained control of the ball after half time where he made three goals with Evan Smith moving the ball to Wood. Heather Bone and Kelsey Smith put the ball out defen­ sively but some shots made it to Jamee Johnston where she made great stops. Girls enjoy 25-9 win Blyth Squirt Girls opened the sea­ son with a big 25-9 loss to Goderich I May 23. On May 29 they hosted Clinton and squeaked out a 16-15 win. Blyth was down by one going into the last inning. A homer by Erin Moore tied it up, then another run scored for the victory. Their third game was June 8 in Goderich against the second team. Leading the offense in this 23-14 hit parade for Blyth was Lisa Root, with a homerun. In the Mite Girls division, Shelby Martin of East Wawanosh placed second in the 50-metre race and schoolmate Nicole Robinson took third. In the 200-metre, Ellen Cook of East Wawanosh placed second and Heather Hill of Brussels, third. Cook captured first in the 400- metre. The East Wawanosh team placed third in the 50-metre shuttle relay and first in the 4X100-metre relay. In the field events, winners were: Emily Branje, Grey Central, second, running long jump; Kaytee Richmond, East Wawanosh, third, running long jump and Nicole Robinson, East Wawanosh, first standing long jump. The standings for Mite Boys were, from East Wawanosh: Ryan Van Camp, second, 50-metres, second 100-metres, third, running long jump; Greg Dodds, second, 200- metres, first, 400-metres, first ball throw; Ryan Swanson, third, triple jump and Dalton Delisle, first, stand­ ing long jump, third, high jump. Winners from Grey Central were: Greg Kuepfer, third, 50-metres, third 400-metres and Jordan Roberts, third, 100-metres. Finishers from Brussels were: Andrew Lindsay, first, triple jump; Andrew Watson, third, standing long jump and Brendan Stretton, third, ball throw.
