Good turnout for weekend’s auction By JoAnn McDonald It was a wonderful weekend at the Brussels Legion, busy for the mem­ bers. who really appreciate the atten­ dance at all the functions. There was a great crowd for the Friday night supper and this week will be ham and salads. Good weather contributed to a good attendance of pilots and aviation enthusiasts. Friday night was the beginning of the silent auction. A nice crowd perused the offerings and and were seen back on Saturday. A great crowd on Saturday had avid bidders right up to the end. A speedy recovery is sent to Jean Grey accepts tender At the regular meeting of Grey Twp. council on June 5 the tender of Hanna and Hamilton Construction for the supply and hauling of 7,000 tonnes “A” gravel and 22,000 tonnes “B” gravel to the road reconstruction of Cone. 17, Lots 3-10 was accepted. The tender price of $75,370 was the lowest of four tenders received. Construction is expected to start in early July. Council was advised that the Town of North Perth had accepted the ten­ der of The Murray Group for asphalt at a price of $39.26 per tonne plus taxes. Included in this contract was approximately 3200 tonnes for the paving of Grey Twp. Cone. 3-4 from County Rd. 19 to the North Perth Boundary. Grey’s share is approxi­ mately $135,000. Council finalized its 2000 tax rate bylaw. Residential and farm taxes will be due in two installments, July 31 (60 per cent) and the balance due Nov. 30. Fifty per cent of the 1999 commercial and industrial taxes will be due July 31 with the balance being due Nov. 30. The total 2000 tax rate Little who suffered a fall. A grant of $251 was authorized to the Brussels Agricultural Society for the 2000 Brussels Fall Fair while $90 will be given to the Huron Farm and Home Safety Association for slow vehicle warning signs on county road entrances. In other business council approved accounts totalling $420,204.43 for payment.
