Sunday school students receive seals

24 play shoot
On Friday. June 9 there were eight
tables of shoot in play.
Prizes were awarded to: high lady.
Merle McFarlane; second high lady,
Nell Johnston; most shoots, Jean
Deyell; low lady, Mary McIntosh;
high man, Irlma Edgar; second high
man, Jane Grasby; most shoots, Jack
Taylor; low man, Gordon Bosman.

McCarter greeted worshippers at
Knox United Church on Sunday,
June ll. Bruce Whitmore, the guest
speaker welcomed the congregation,
on the 75th anniversary of the United
Church.
The senior choir sang God is
Bigger and Laudamus accompanied
by Elizabeth Procter.
The scripture reading was Acts 2:
l-2l.
Lila Procter. Sunday school
superintendent presented the
seals and certificates to the Sunday
School children. Karen Hallahan and
Amy Barnes looked* after the
nursery.
Reflections past and present was
presented by Agnes McBumey, Ivan
Dow. George Inglis, Irene Lamont,
Steve Nixon, Murray Scott, John
McIntosh, Lome Campbell, Barbara
Anderson and Mr. Whitmore.
Scott Folkard, Pau! Walker, Don
and Ken Procter took up the offering.
Muriel Coultes, Shawn Cottrill and
Nicole Walker commented on
reflections - present and future.
Also taking part in the service
were flag bearers, Florence
McArter and Mike Cottrill;
time capsule bearers, Andrew
Procter and Camerra Yuill;
tree bearer, Joyce Vincent;
pipers, Mary Thomas and Charles
Procter; ushers, Don Procter and
John Nixon.
Various members took part in the
dedication and tree planting
ceremony.
June 12 is the final choir practice
for the senior choir until September.
Calvin Brick UCW will meet at
the home of Joan Pederson at 8 p.m.
on Wednesday, June 14.
The Knox Sunday school
anniversary and chicken barbecue is
on Sunday, June 18.
On Wednesday, June 21 Knox
Session and Stewards will meet in
the Sunday school room at 7:30 p.m.
and the Belgrave pastoral charge
official board meeting is at 8:30 p.m.
The male members of the official
board served a potluck lunch
following the church service.

Mabel's Moms met at their regular
time on Wednesday, June 7. Those
who attended were Lila Procter and
Jessica; Kim Higgins, Ashley,
Shelby; and Linda Hess and Judith.
Their topic was Gardens.
Bob and Jane Grasby and Laura
Johnston spent the weekend with
George and Mary Johnston, Tara and
Errin of Ilderton and Gary, Donna
and Jeff Leitch of London.
On Sunday 35 members of the
Leitch and Grasby families
including Julie and Mike Hobgood,
Zachary and Ethen of Mission held a
family picnic at the home of Garry
and Donna Leitch and Jeff at
London.
When the Huron West Wl met in Belgrave recently, they not only celebrated their 100th
anniversary, but installed a new executive as well. In back, from left: Teena Empey, curator;
Audrey Fenton, public relations; Pauline Lindsay, president of the London Conference; Donna
MacPherson, provincial advisory council; Donna Willows, provincial board director; and Jane

UCW plans over-80 party

Mrs. Ora Bruce welcomed the
WMS ladies to her home on
Monday, June 5 with Margaret
Siertsema giving the call to worship.
Dini Nethery read scripture.
Learning to Be a Senior was read
by Margaret. The secretary and
treasurer’s reports were given.
The roll call was answered by a
favourite bird. Fifty-nine sick and
shut-in calls were recorded.
There will be no July meeting.
Mrs. Siertsema read From a
Child’s View, Keeping Bugs Away
Outside and a Deck of Cards. Alice
Nicholson read of God’s gifts. Lotti
Scott read The Most Beautiful
Flower.
The regular meeting of the
Belgrave Evening Unit to Knox
United Church was held Tuesday,
June 6 at the home of Loma Cook
with 14 present.
Mrs. Cook welcomed every
one and read a poem Up to
You. Thelma Pletch and Louise
Bosman conducted the worship
service. They recalled the many
stories of Jesus.
The next meeting will be at the
home of Freda Johnston.
There will be lunch after church
June 25. The Millennium celebration
members are asked to take
sandwiches to the arena.
Plans were made for the over-80
birthday party. It was decided to hold
it Tuesday, July 18 at 2 p.m.
Committees were chosen. Donna
Shaw and Jane Grasby were named
to have new taps and countertop
installed in’the church kitchen, as
well to purchase pitchers for the
kitchen.
Mrs. Cook read about a minister’s
experiences in India as an
itinerant minister where she gave
insight to the needs of the people.
She felt it prepared her to be a better
minister.
Muriel Coultes had the group Freda Johnston and Barbara
make a craft, which all enjoyed. Anderson served a tasty lunch.

United holds communion Father’s Day Sale

Londesboro, had been a lifelong
member first of Burns, then of
Londesboro United Churches. Ida
resided for a number of years in
Clinton and of late at the Seaforth
Manor.
Sympathy of the community is
extended to her sister Gladys, other
family members and friends.
Gardening is the theme for June
UCW meeting on June 19. A tour of
Maris and Tina Bos’s gardens is set
for 7 p.m.
The business meeting will begin at
Joan Whyte’s cabin at 8:30 p.m. A
car pool will leave the church at 6:45
p.m.

perennial slip for a plant exchange.
