Walton Public School news
Kindergarten students read
It was quite an exciting week for
some of the Walton kindergartens as
they began to read some of the ‘easy
to read’ books.
Volunteers Karen Braecker and
Susan Gerber listened to the
young readers. After every book
they read they get to put a sticker
on a chart.
The children made some picture
frames in the shape of a sun or a
moon and they placed their school
picture in it. They also practised the
two sounds of th.
The Grade I/2s have completed
their presentation of endangered
species posters. They were showing
how they can classify species
into birds, mammals, reptiles,
amphibians and plants by playing a
game to identify the word on their
back by asking questions. The rest of
the students could only answer yes
or no.

of Ashfield, Colborne and West
Wawanosh met at the Ashfield
Municipal Office on May 29.
A letter from Colborne requesting
that the board discuss its proposal to
produce a common manure control
bylaw was tabled until September.
A letter is being forwarded to Judy
Kay, who feels the board had acted
inappropriately during a closed
session. It notes the advice received
from the board’s solicitor and
includes written confirmation of that
advice.
Secretary Joan Armstrong was
directed to contact the county’s
clerk-administrator Lynn Murray as
a follow-up to the letter from Mosey
and Mosey with regards to acting as
a resource for benefit plan
integration and standardization for
the new municipality.
The board acknowledged a letter
from the South Huron transition
board concerning police service in
the county. The board’s response
will indicate its interest in
participating with other transition
boards in Huron to see that rather
than assessment being the basis for
costing, service should be paid on a
workload share.
The budgets for Ashfield and West
Wawanosh were approved.
Considerable and lively discussion
in Seaforth was held last week. Jodi

followed on the administrative
structure for the new municipality.
Job descriptions were mentioned.
These are still in draft form.
The subject of mail-in ballots also
brought debate.
A letter was drafted to Ashfield
regarding the position that council
had taken by motion May 19.
Approval was given for mail-in
ballots and the clerk was directed to
prepare a bylaw for the
implementation of a vote-by-mail
election in November, despite the
fact that the other two townships had
voted against it, as did the transition
board.
