Golden years of Blyth marked their 50th wed- before moving to Blyth in 1956. Mrs. McClinchey worked at the bank and several grocery stores in Blyth Lion Brenda Brown served up freshly grilled hot dogs when the club hosted a barbecue at the arena on Saturday. (Vicky Bremner photo) Historical Soc. meets at CHSS The annual meeting of the Huron County Historical Society was held on Thursday evening, May 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the library of the Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton. The membership report by Jean Fraser noted there are currently 180 members in the society. Jens Schoenrank, editor for the Historical Notes which will be Huron County’s involvement in military history since 1914 asked for anyone with any information, pictures, etc. to contact him at 519-680-3557 or any council member. Reg Thompson updated regarding the new cairn to be erected at the Huronview Cemetery. Two hundred trees have been planted in memory of people buried there. Paul Carroll reported that the plaque project for this year will be for-the School of Commerce which was in Clinton. The unveiling date will be Aug. 5. This year it will be to the London area - Eldon House, Middlesex County Court House and Fanshawe Pioneer Village. Tickets are still available. Bob and Fran McClinchey of Blyth celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with quiet gatherings with family.. Frances Hollyman was born in Blyth to Francis and Mary Hollyman. Robert Donald McClinchey was born in East Wawanosh Twp., north of Auburn, to Gordon and Lillian McClinchey. The couple wed at the Hollyman home on May 27, 1950. Rev. Rogers officiated and Jewel McClinchey and Andy Plunkett attended. After a honeymoon tour from Buffalo, through the United States, and home via Detroit, the McClincheys farmed for a few years of the society for their support. A special thank you was extended to all the volunteers who helped at the IPM. President Duncan thanked Dave for his guidance to the society during the past years. Guest speaker Ivan McClymont, presented his topic, Book Collecting from the Turn of the century by telling members how many kinds of book collectors there are and how he started to collect books. There are many different designs for book cov­ ers. Several books were on display for members to look at and McClymont said, “a good book is like an old friend.” The next meeting will be held Sept. 21 in Wingham with Jim Currie from Wescast Foundry as guest SDeaker. Mr. McClinchey ran a garage for seven years, drove a school bus for 25 years and operated the Grandview for eight years before retiring about 10 years ago. They are members of the Blyth United Church and Mr. McClinchey is a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 420. He is also a member of the Nashville Rejects, a band which performs at senior citi­ zens' homes. They marked the happy occasion with family; daughter Pat and Jim Brigham and their children Jennifer, Mary Beth, Kendra and Gordon and son Wayne, Jackie and family Greg, Skye and Tim.
