Legion hosts suppers NEWS FROM BRUSSELS By JoAnn McDonald The Friday night suppers at the Legion are still going on. We have some good cooks at the Branch and it will really show when we have potluck this week on Friday. If you do not wish to bring a dish to share, $4 a plate per person is the going rate. Euchre on May 13 had 13 tables at play. Euchre on May 27 had only seven tables. It was a busy day in the village with the yard sales and elim ination draw but we were happy to see the ones who did turn up. The first place winners were Lloyd and Lillian Appleby. Coming in second were Marie Stewart and Jim Coultes. The third place winners were Mac McDonald and his friend Jim. Lone It was a busy spot here on Saturday - garage sales on many streets with cars and people stopping and starting anytime and anywhere. Keeping out of the traffic was a job as treasures were moved to new locations with great joy. The reeve is back in town. Ralph was in Arizona checking the desert and visiting family. Both are fine. The Lions Club was busy on Saturday getting the Elimination Draw organized. It’s been a yearly event since B.ll Beacom and compa ny set up the first one many years hand winners were Edna McLellan and George Michie. The Branch had a visitor from the past last week. Bunny Keffer, a sister- of member Alex Keffer, who has been gone from Brussels for 40 years. She has been enjoying a cou ple of w'eeks holiday around the area. She is a past treasurer of the ladies auxiliary. Bunny met some of the other auxiliary members she remembered while enjoying the Friday night supper and hospitality of the Branch. They reside in B.C. and have had a wonderful time see ing old acquaintances and relatives. The Ladies Auxiliary had a busy weekend with catering to a wedding reception at the Branch on Saturday. Anyone with Silent Auction donations is asked to bring them to the Branch this week or call if they can volunteer. Comrade Al Nichol is in Wingham hospital and we wish him a return to good health. The Ladies Auxiliary D-Day serv ice is being held on Sunday, June 4 at the Anglican Church at 11:15. A service is held to commemorate the importance of D-Day and its signifi cance. Everyone is welcome to attend. Members are encouraged to attend and parade to the church. Form up at Legion at 10:30 a.m. If any comrades are interested in speaking with the Provincial Service Officer about pensions, etc. contact Ross Bennett 887-9069 immediately. Mother’s Day breakfast had a great turnout and we expect Father’s Day breakfast to be the same. Continued on page 6 ago. Good reason - good company - good results. Congratulations to Leslie and Yvonne Knight, the evening’s big winners. It’s good to see Mike Cooper mobile once more. Now be careful Mike. Congratulations to Marianne Bone and the St. Thomas Pipe Band of which she is a member. They com peted in the Highland Games at Elma, Michigan this past weekend, placing fifth out of 18 on Saturday and finishing second out of 18 in Sunday’s U.S. championship. I hope you’re taking time to enjoy the sights and sounds of spring - the laughter of kids at soccer practise, the regularity of the Walkers, the many hues of green at the Homecoming Park, the life of young lambs and calves in the field, the new beaver in town and the profu sion of colour in the flowerbeds. Enjoy! Get ready it’s June. Bye now, Betty G. A message from The War Amps The right cut There’s a new critter in town with Peter Mogensen’s newest carving.
