After being a co-op student with United Way she wanted to get more public relations experience and last June was asked to join the com mittee, becoming its youngest mem ber. A Day of Caring has provided the opportunity to work with other high schools across the county, she said. “We have been meeting every Monday since September to plan this event”, said Latimer. “We are plan ning to mobilize the vast majority of Huron County high school students to spend May 27 doing something in their community”. The students are planning to plant trees, clean the neighborhood, read to the elderly, work with United Way agencies and plan other activities to equal up to 10 volunteer hours. To celebrate the end of their work day, they will be having a barbecue. “More than anything else, I hope that this project will prove to all the skeptics that the youth in this com munity are ready and willing to help out in their community,” said Latimer.
