The Canadian students are doing the same thing. At the Second Excellence in Education Awards Banquet, spon sored by Ontario Secondary Schools Teachers’ Federation District 8 and the Avon Maitland District School Board, held at the Mitchell Community Centre May 3, Linda Campbell, a teacher at F. E. Madill Secondary School in Wingham, was recognized for her exceptional involvement in the Marion Drysdale Contest. The Marion Drysdale Contest is a writing and creative arts competition which is open to all public secondary school students in Ontario. High school students are judged at the local District level and the District winners are forwarded to a Regional round of adjudication. The Regional winners are submitted to a distin guished adjudication team in Toronto where Provincial winners in the nine categories are chosen. Since the beginning of the former Huron District 45 OSSTF involve ment in the Drysdale Contest in 1994, Ms. Campbell has been a ded icated supporter of the Drysdale Contest. Not only has she encour aged her students individually to enter the contest but she has encour aged fellow teachers to get their stu dents involved. The results of her efforts have been spectacular. Madill’s record of achievement is without equal: 1994 - three District winners; 1995 - four District winners; 1996 - four District winners, three of whom were Regional winners; 1997 - two District winners, one of whom went on to be a Regional and Provincial winner (David Morley); 1998 - three District winners, two of whom were Regional winners, one of whom was a Provincial winner (Andy Shaw); 1999 - two District winners, one of whom was Regional and Provincial winner (Brad Wright); and, 2000 - one District winner. The Madill record of achievement is exceptional and due largely to the dedication of Linda Campbell. We, of the Avon Maitland District School Board, teachers, educational work ers, and administrators, join in salut ing Linda Campbell.
