COMMUNITY NEWSPAPERS We’re at the heart of things The Human Resources Centre for Students (HRC-S) opened on May 4, and is offering many services to both students and employers. Students have already begun to register, and those who have not, are encouraged to do so quickly. Employers who have not yet used the centre should consider the benefits of hiring students. Students are flexible, energetic and are able to work on a short-term basis. The HRC-S is offering many services this year in additiomto matching available jobs with compatible students. The centre also offers group information sessions for students on resume and cover letters, as well as on interview skills. This year’s employment officers are Sherry Ropp, who has completed her third year of studies in geography and social development studies at the University of Waterloo, and Tricia- Lee Keller, who has completed her second year of the music therapy program at the University of Windsor. Also available is information for employers on government programs and wage rates. Employers should feel free to approach the centre with any job that needs to be filled. Casual employment such as lawn care, stone picking, babysitting, and odd jobs are welcomed. Many students have indicated interest in participating in the “Odd Job Squad” being offered at the centre. However, more permanent positions are encouraged. Possibilities could include employment in customer service, administration, farming, general labour, research and/or communication. The HRC-S will be working co operatively with the Huron Employment Resource Centre (HERC) to service the Wingham area. Students can register at the Wingham centre. Students have access to job postings and services in both centres. Ropp and Keller will be travelling to high schools in the area to inform students of the services available to them. Students will be able to register at this time, but are encouraged to also visit the office in Listowel. The Listowel centre serves Listowel, Wingham, Milverton, Palmerston, Clifford, Harriston, Mount Forest, Arthur, Walton and surrounding areas. Anyone interested in finding out more about the HRC-s, completing a registration form, or placing a job order, call (519) 291-2922 or 291- 2925.
