Rev. Cathrine Campbell - 887-9831 their operations bigger. Farmers are faced with fluctuating commodity prices and constantly ris ing input costs, he said. Rev. Dow told how “between 1985 and 1995 farm produce prices rose eight per cent, but input prices rose 22 per cent.” As retail prices have risen the farmer’s share has not increased at the same rate, in some cases their share has decreased. Rev. Dow used the example of pork chops. “Between 1977 and 1998, the cost of retail pork chops about doubled from $4.45 to $8.76 per kg. At the end of that period the farmer was receiving 22 cents less than two decades earli er.” Rev. Dow told the congregation how the path to blessing is to turn to God and away from “affluence, machinery and fussy standards.” Rev. Dow’s final point was that “we must be able to recognize real blessing when it comes. We need to be aware of God’s presence.” 887-6388 "...but I have called you friends."
