On Wednesday, April 26 there
were seven tables of euchre in play
at the Women’s Institute Hall.
Winners were: high lady, Mary
Taylor; second high lady, Jane
Grasby; lone hands, Mary McIntosh;
low lady, Iona McLean; high man,
Richard Moore; second high man,
Stuart Chamney; lone hands, Jim
Coultes; low man, Bev Hayden.
There were seven tables of euchre
in play at the Women’s Institute on
Wednesday, May 3.

Adams; lone hands, Norma Moore;
low lady, Ada-Taylor; high man,

May 10 at 8 p.m.
WMS hears
about Cuba
The annual meeting of the One new member Doreen Taylor
Belgrave Women’s Institute began
with a potluck meal enjoyed by
members and guests. Program con
venor Kay Roberts introduced six
students from East Wawanosh
Public School who were the winners
of the storytelling and public speak
ing competitions: Kaytee Richmond,
Dalton Delisle, Amber Delisle,
Cameron Chaffe, Emily Elston and
Christ Cottrill.
During the business meeting,
chaired by President Wilma Higgins,
a minute’s silence was observed in
memory of devoted member Alice
Scott.
Donations will be made to the
Erland Lee Home, Wheels Away and
the Children’s Miracle Telethon. The
Huron West District annual meeting
will be held in Belgrave on May 29.

will be a garden and greenhouse tour
at Cory Sanders.
The roll call was answered by a
memory from school days.
Dates were set for an executive
meeting and a cleaning bee at the
hall.
The annual meeting began with
the minutes and year-end financial
statement given by Nancy Jardm.
The president of Huron West
District Lois Elliott brought greet
ings from the district and told of
some proposed changes. She pointed
out the importance of information
found in the upgraded handbook.

M. Whitmore, Knox speaker
Melissa Whitmore, guest speaker
greeted at Knox United Church on
the third Sunday of Easter May 7.
Joanne Robinson played the piano in
the absence of Elizabeth Procter.
The scripture readings were Psalm
133 and Romans 5: 1-11.
The children gathered in the front
pews for story time. Miss Whitmore
showed them a circle of friends
which
best friend. She spoke of the benefits ■
of friends.
Lila Procter handed out attendance
awards to Ben Procter, Melinda
Dorsch and Andrew Procter. Tracey
Brohm and Amy Barnes looked after
the nursery. The sermon was Friends
Forever. “Friends”, she said, “are
God’s way of looking after us. God
is our constant friend - he loves us
and reaches out to us.”
The WMS held its meeting on
Monday, May 1 at the home of
Lottie Scott. Freda Scott opened
with a Call to Worship and a prayer.
Margaret Siertsema read scripture.
Freda Scott read a story on the ser
mon on the mount.
Mrs. Siertsema gave the minutes
of the last meeting. Ivy Cloakey
gave the financial report. Roll call
was to name a mother of the Bible.
Thirty-two sick and shut-in visits
were recorded. •
Lottie Scott showed a video on
Cuba and told of her trip there a few
years ago. Cuba is the country stud
ied this year.
UCWs meet
The Afternoon Unit of the UCW
met May 2 in the Sunday School
room.
Kay Roberts welcomed everyone
and read the poem Dogwood Tree.
Edith Vincent conducted the wor
ship with the meditation being
Mother’s Day. She then read Love
You Forever.
Ada Taylor presented the Bible
Study continuing with Matthew 16:
20 - 23.
Mrs. Roberts was in charge of the
Mission Study and presented a skit
entitled Mission Flight 2000. Those
taking part were Lois Chamney,
Mary Hunter, Audrey Fenton, Olive

who passed away May 3, 1978,
placed by her daughter Velma. Marg

Search Committee said the new min
ister Ethel Miner Claire is arriving
on July 1. She will be ordained at
London Conference.
On Sunday, May 14 Mother’s Day
the junior choir will be singing.
Club meets
The Belgrave Community Club
met on Friday, May 5 with 19 pres
ent. President Mabel Wheeler read
from an old school reader about
Mothers.
The Ontario Convention of
Seniors Citizens will be held Aug. 14
- 16 in North Bay. The Belgrave
Club hosted the birthday party at
Huronlea on Tuesday, May 9.
May shoot parties will be held on
May 12 and 26. Senior games are
being held June 12 and 13 in
Stratford.
A bus trip is being planned for
June 13 to see Brigadoon. Contact
Donna Shaw, if interested in attend
ing.
Mabel’s Moms met at their regular
time on Wednesday, April 26.

The family of Bill and Muriel
Coultes visited on Easter Sunday at
the home of Mark and Janice
Matheson and family of
Molesworth. Eight family birthdays
were celebrated, those of three
daughters, Janice, Joanne and
Alison; four granddaughters, Lisa,
Laura, Amy and Sydney and grand
son Tyler.
Sincere sympathy is extended to
Marian and Dale Hussey and family
in the sudden loss of Marian’s father
Melvin Lane of Port Lampton who
would have celebrated his 85th
birthday on May 10. He will be
sadly missed by his grandchildren
and great-grandchild: Mark, Marla,
Melinda, Matthew and his wife
Natalie and son Ocean, Micah,
Manuel, Melina, Myron and
Montina.
