Blyth Clerk-Treasurer John Stewart said service could be han dled as it had been before. Either village employees solve the prob lem or local companies are called. Commissioner Dale Whitfield was concerned for the employees Blyth currently has four people who work part-time on PUC concerns. However, if the utility were sold to Hydro One, Whitfield questioned how the staff would be handled. Stewart said Hydro One might offer village PUC workers a position with the company or severance packages. Whitfield said these details were needed before a deci sion to sell could be made. In an unofficial polling of coun cillors and commissioners to deter mine where the general sentiment lie, there were five leaning to Hydro One, one for a joint venture and one interested in a partial ownership deal. Students play Newcombe ball Continued from page 3 received a third place cash prize for her winning entry in the Farm Safety Poster contest. On March 31 an in-school talent show was held at Blyth. Sponsored and organized by student council, the show featured skipping, dancing, singing, skits and a fashion show. Grades 3 to 5 have just completed a two-week round of Newcombe ball competition. Four teams competed at recesses in this volleyball lead-up game. The “Wildfire” team emerged with the championship after finals competition, beating the “Magical Men from Oz” by a score of 11 - 7. On April 28 students will be given an opportunity to participate in the Jump Rope for Heart skipping activity to eam money for the Heart and Stroke foundation. Jump Rope for Heart campaign is a major fundraiser for the Heart and. Stroke Foundation, and to a lesser degree, the school. Grade 7 and 8 students will be working hard over the next few weeks to plan an activity-centred day for the students. BPS students will be expected to have at least a $3 pledge to participate. Donations of over $10 will automatically receive a tax receipt, and receipts can be requested for lesser amounts. Parents are welcome to come out and join the fun. Congratulations to Jeff Elliott who won second place in the Junior Division of the Zone Level Public speaking contest at the Seaforth Legion on March 4. Welcome to Kirissa, Salome, Shanta and Brooks Alexander and to Melissa and Kendra Smith who have joined the Blyth Public School family and have fit in very well. Our school population is now at 204 students. The school is looking for people to help plan and run a pancake breakfast on Sunday, April 30. If interested contact the office. Once again this year, the Royal Canadian Legion has generously supported the swimming program for Grade 2 students. Each Wednesday afternoon for eight weeks, Grade 2s will travel to Vanastra Community Centre for this worthwhile experience.
