B. Hicks
A beautiful, sunny Easter
morning greeted worshippers at
Duff’s United Church on April 23.
Guest speaker for the service was
Barb Hicks. She led the
congregation in the call to worship.
The opening hymn, Jesus Christ is
Risen Today was sung followed by
announcements. Hicks
acknowledged the floral
arrangement placed in memory of
Floyd Clark, by the McDonald
family.
The choir sang the Easter song,
Joy Comes with the Dawn. Then
Hicks holding a small bird cage
called the young worshippers
forward and told them a story,
Birds in a Cage. A little boy
walking down the road with a cage
full of birds met an old man. The
man asked him where he got the
birds. The little boy said he caught
them in the field and he was going
to have fun with them. He would
get them to fight with each other
and maybe he would clip their
wings. The old man was quite upset
and asked if he could buy them.
The boy asked why in the world
would he want them because they
weren’t good for much, they
couldn’t sing and they sure weren’t
pretty. The man insisted and the
boy finally agreed. The man took
the cage and immediately set the
officers
New prices for dinners were

The next meeting on May 17 will

talking on sleeping children around

see if they could determine which
water would have bacteria in it, the
dish water, tap water or river water.
They placed a piece of cooked
potato in each jar of water and put
it in a cool, dark place to see what
would happen. You will have to
stay tuned for next week to see
which jar of water will have
bacteria in it.
The groups all joined in together
to talk about all that they had
learned. Then they ended the day
by eating watermelon and each
child received an Earth Day
certificate.

Now Jesus was walking down the
road when he came upon a cage
full of people with Satan holding
the key. Jesus asked him what he
was going to do with them. Satan
said he would get them to fight
with one another and he would
torment them some, maybe clip
their wings.
Jesus asked what he would take
for them. Satan wondered why he
would want them since they
weren’t worth much, they weren’t
pretty, couldn’t sing well and they
were just ordinary people. Jesus
again asked how much he wanted
for them. Satan finally had Jesus
where he wanted him and said, “All
of your tears and your blood.”
Jesus immediately set the people
free.
