Neil said the weather was beautiful and the food plentiful and they had a very relaxing time. Jeff and Brian McGavin had won this promotional trip and decided that mom and dad could use it better than they could at this time. Welcome back folks. There will be a Walton Hall Luncheon on April 26 starting at 11:30 a.m. to l p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend as they also have many wonderful cooks to prepare food. Open Wedding Reception Two for one Walton Public School student Derek Bachert reads for principal Alice McDowell and principal-for-a-day Graeme Craig last Wednesday afternoon. Craig was taking part in an exchange that will soon see McDowell flipping pancakes at the Walton Inn. (Photo by Pauline Biok) G. Craig, principal for a day After Wednesday of last week I am wondering if Walton Public School will ever be the same. It seems that Principal Alice McDowell made Graeme Craig principal for the day or afternoon as it turned out. Alice will get to be the head chef at .the Walton Inn sometime in May or June. Some of Graeme’s duties were eating birthday cake with one of the kindergarten children., Brody. Brody offered Graeme the fluffy tail on his bunny cake. He also listened to a Grade 2 student read, did the afternoon announcements, assisted with dismissal, ordered port-a-potties for the year end celebration, took care of the emcees for the event as well, and gave some background information for the history of the school. So, if there are any schools that need a principal for a day just give Graeme a call as he is now highly trained. The Grade l/2s have completed their unit on eating healthy by making a snack called, Popcorn Munchie Mix. They still have to find the results of what bones are like without enough calcium. They have a bone in ajar of vinegar for the test. The Grade 3/4s went to Seaforth to participate in the Slice of Huron this past week. The kids all divided into groups and each group then participated in different activities. When they got back to the school a representative from each group told the group of students and teachers what they learned. The Grade 4s had an ice-cream party in celebration of learning much of their timetables. Keep up the good work. The Reading Club also held its meeting serving all kinds of tasty refreshments to their fellow students and all the parents who arrived. Each child had to tell about the book they read from the list of Things With Wings. Some of the books were titled, Owls in the Family, The Cow Won’t Come Down, Up Up and Away. The next books to read can be anything that they choose. for Jeff Alcock, son of Ross & Cora Alcock of Brussels and Erin (Johnstone) Alcock, daughter of Ken and Karen Johnstone of Lucknow on Saturday, April 29, 2000 at Brussels, Morris & Grey Community Centre, Brussels from 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Jeff and Erin were married on March 29, 2000 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Duffs serves up breakfast Palm Sunday started off with a well-attended breakfast with some of the best cooks in Walton in the kitchen. There were the two McGavin brothers in there with sleeves rolled up taking their job of cooking eggs very seriously. Graeme Craig, well organized, was mixing up his famous hotcake batter, while that wonder with a flipper, Gloria Wilbee, was flipping perfectly round hotcakes. Shelley McGavin manned the toaster, Dianne VanVliet, Heidi McClure and Patty Banks kept the crowd happy by making sure all the serving plates were kept full of bacon, sausage, hash browns, hotcakes, syrup, eggs, muffins, toast, juice and coffee. It was a well fed crowd that went up the stairs later on as Brian and Shelley, Abby and Brandon McGavin greeted everyone and handed out the bulletins. Bonnie Cole Amal was the guest minister for the morning service. She welcomed everyone and said how nice it was to be there and that she would be back in June. She called the children forward and told them what Palm Sunday was about. She gave them a palnr branch, then passed them to the congregation. She taught the children and congregation the Palm Sunday Peace song and during the singing of it the palm branches were waved. Rev. Cole Arnal’s Proclamation of the Passion story was done with scripture reading, reflections and verses of the hymn, Go to Dark Gethsemane. Communion was served by Gloria Wilbee, Brian Wilbee, Brian McGavin and Monique Baan. During the serving of communion, Jim Cook and Patty Banks sang the African American spiritual, They Crucified My Lord from the Voices United hymn book. The Easter Service in Walton will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Barb Hicks as guest speaker.
