Knox celebrates
baptism service
A song sung by the junior choir,
directed by Shelley Grange, and
accompanied by pianist Nancy Park
welcomed all to the service at Knox
United on Palm Sunday.
This was a special day as the
church and congregation welcomed
James Whytock, a former member
of Calvin Brick United into
membership.
Baptism followed with Janice
Hayes welcomed into God’s house
by everyone. Janice has been active
in church work since moving to
Auburn.
Scripture was read from
Galatians III during this service.
Confirmation service followed as
Jeff Carter, Martin and Angelica
Sturzenegger and LeeAnn Vincent
renewed their faith in God’s word.
Scripture prior to the minister’s
message was from Mark II. In this
Christ told the disciples to bring a
tied up colt to Him. He rode it and
they made a celebration and called
him blessed.
Rev. Paul Ross spoke on
conviction, commitment, and
community. “Christ gave His L'fe
that we might live. We must do
what we feel is right and follow in
the path that God gave us. We must
follow His word in our work
everywhere at home and in the
community and in the world,’’ he
said.
Collection was received and
presented by Bernice and Gordon
Gross, Bryan Gross and Greg Park.
Communion followed. Richard
Archambault served the bread arid
Rev. Ross held the wing goblet.
There will be a Good Friday
service in Knox United on April 21
at 10 a.m.
Donations to the Auburn
Community Care Project must be
handed in by the end of this month.
Children’s dark clothing, fall and
winter, sizes four to 12 plus all
accessories are needed. These are
to go to Maureen Bean or Grace
Cartwright.
April 29
shower
date
The date for the coming shower
of Susan Gross will be on April 29
at Ila Cunningham’s home.
The annual Women’s Institute
dinner is Thursday, April 20. The
meal is at Stickers Restaurant at
12:30 p.m.
Ila Cunningham was hostess for a
family celebration at her home on
Sunday, April 16.
Dr. Ross and Eleanor Armstrong,
London visited on Sunday with
their cousins Kay and Elliott Lapp.
They have recently returned from
Saudi Arabia where they both
served in the medical field.
Gratefully accepting
Blyth and District Community Centre board chair Bob
Szusz accepted a $1,000 cheque from Blyth Lions
president Brent Scrimgeour, with much appreciation, last
week. The money will go towards the cost of the new ice
resurfacer at the arena.

The WMS April meeting was
held at the home of Mrs. Murray
Crawford on April 11 with a good
attendance.
Mrs. Leslie Knight took the
Easter topic reminding members
that they are like Thomas, the
skeptic who doubted Jesus’ word.
As the disciples were gathered with
Jesus, they heard the words but did
not understand their meaning.
Scripture was read from I John 4.
Mrs. Knight led in prayer.
Cranbrook WMS is to be twinned
with an afternoon group, Listowel
Wallace. Presbyterial visitor is Mrs.
Bev Nichol.
Cranbrook is invited to the
Thankoffering in Monkton on April
30.
There were five cards and 20
visits made to the sick and shut-ins.
The Cranbrook WMS is in
charge of the church service on
April 30.
Madelene Steiss gave the topic
on Cuba which was most extensive.
Most of the farmers have moved to
the cities and agriculture has
collapsed. This has happened even
though they have a year-round
growing season and the topsoil is
six or seven metres thick, she said.
The crops, which have been well
grown are sugar cane and
pineapple. Castro’s government
employs most of the common
workers. Health care in Cuba is
free, but there are few drugs and
nurses and doctors are in short
supply. Tourism is a major
industry.
The March meeting of the WMS
was held at the home of Mrs.
Mervin Schneider in Brussels.
On a lovely, warm, sunny day the
ladies gathered in Brussels to hold
the World Day of Prayer. There
was a good attendance and the
women followed the printed
program which was prepared by the
Christian women of Indonesia.
Bible readings were from Isaiah 56:
6, 9-11 and 2 Timothy 1: 15-18.
Time was spent discussing ways
to raise money for the WMS
allocation.
