the children. He impressed upon
them that there are certain things
one must do to be a member of any
group. Although parents decide
church affiliation for a child at the
time of baptism, confirmation of
faith is decided by the individual
for himself.
Christ’s entry into Jerusalem on a
donkey as the start of Holy Week
was recounted in the scripture
Mark 11: 1-11. Rev. Ross
acknowledged that it was a difficult
decision for Christ knowing what
was ahead for Him. His strong
commitment to His purpose, His
conviction in God’s will, and His
community of followers gave Him
strength.
To enter into church membership
takes a conviction to live God’s
way, and a commitment to become
involved in the activities of the
church community, he said.
Londesboro church members are
reminded of the Good Friday
Service in Auburn at 10 a.m.
The youth group will meet April

arrives
Have you noticed? The unique
bit of fencing at the corner of King
and Victoria Streets has come
down. Bill Armstrong has recently
purchased that property that many
of us know as the former home of
Jake and Mary MacDougall. Bill,
the son of Ken Armstrong is no
stranger to the village. He works at
Fag Bearings in Stratford.
Bill’s children, Caitlin, nine, and
Ryan, seven, will surely enjoy their
close proximity to the school
playground equipment and having
other village children to play with
now that summer is coming. The
community is pleased to welcome
this young family.

WINGHAM & DISTRICT HOSPITAL HIGHLIGHTS
EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT:
Each day, on a rotating basis, one of the WDH physicians will be available to
handle all Emergency care. As always, patients will be seen in order of the
severity of their illness and not necessarily in order of time of arrival. If your case
is not urgent and you prefer to see your own family doctor, please contact his or
her office for an appointment.
THANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS:
The administration, staff and patients of WDH extend their thanks to the 160
volunteers who help us provide excellent care and support to our patients. Over
2300 hours of volunteer service were given during the last year. For more
information about volun-teering at WDH, please contact Pat Pietrek at 357-3210,
ext. 267.
WINGHAM & AREA PALLIATIVE CARE:
Around 155 people attended the St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser at Huronlea. The

fine facilities. Thank you to everyone in the community for the donations which
make this event possible.
Wednesday, April 26, a workshop with Drs. Laurence Librach and Michele
Chaban will be held in Holmesville. This refresher day will focus on Quality
Palliative Care, “A Partnership of Caring and Compassion”. For more information
contact Liz Phelan, 357-3210, ext. 213.
NEW FAMILY COUNSELOR:

further information, please call Denise at 357-3210, ext. 268.
SILENCE IS GOLDEN:
This was the theme for Confidentiality Awareness Week, March 27 - 31 at WDH.
In this electronic age, we need to be even more vigilant to protect the
confidentiality of the people we serve. The community also has a role and a
responsibility. Some things you can do include: enter the hospital via the main
entrance, avoid asking hospital employees about information unless it relates to
you personally, and refrain from “pumping” employees for information out in the
community.
CANADA HEALTH DAY:
This year, Wingham & District Hospital and the local Public Health Unit are co
sponsoring a Participation Day for all local public schools. The theme of Canada
Health Day is “Healthy Beginnings: Child Health in the New Millennium". This
event will run at participating schools on the day of their choice between May 8 -
12. Currently 3 schools representing 500 students are participating. There is still
time to register. For more information contact Pat Pietrek, 357-3210, ext. 267.
HPHP NORTH SYSTEM:
Wingham & District Hospital and Listowel Memorial Hospital form the North
System of the Huron Perth Hospitals Partnership. In November 1999, the following
leaders began working at both sites: Mary Houghton, Support Service Leader,
Nancy Brown, Diagnostic Service Leader, Mike Lepaine, Finance Information
Leader and Alfretta Vanderheyden, Integration Leader. In addition, Jean Chacko,
Utilization Manager has provided service at both sites for a number of years. As
time moves forward, we anticipate more opportunities to share expertise and
knowledge.

will be an election of officers and installation of officers. All are welcome to
