At the Branch
Euchre begins monthly calendar
By JoAnn McDonald
Here we are in April and there are
plenty of happenings at the branch.
We started the month with euchre
on April 1. The first place winners
were Harvey Edgar and partner Ed
Stewart. The second place winners
were John and Iola Subject and close
at third were Eileen Sellers and
Marie Stewart. The lucky lone hand
winner for men was Norm Dobson
and Women’s was Isabelle G.
As April has five Saturdays, there
will be more euchres this month. The
same for singles dances will apply.
There were 117 enthusiastic
dancers enjoying the Blue Diamond
Trio on April 2.
The last stag euchre was held with
only four tables so I guess it really is
spring.
Spring, yes, spring means spring
cleaning. We thank the members
who cleaned the downstairs lounges
last Saturday.
You missed it? Don’t worry, we
are cleaning the upstairs hall
Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m. - 12
p.m. You don’t need a special invita
tion - just show up with bucket in
hand. Many hands make light
work.
The hall was busy both Saturday
and Sunday afternoon with
Oddfellows cards and Huron County
darts.
Friday night suppers are still going
on with good crowds coming
out. Spaghetti is on the menu this
week.
Our best wishes go out to member
John Rutledge who is hospitalized in
London.
Remember to drop in so we can
see you At the Branch.
Donations made in memory of Irene Smith went to the Make
a Wish Foundation. Her granddaughter Tanya McArter was
present at the Optimist Foundation fundraiser in Brussels to
present the money to member Don Sholdice. (Vicky Bremner

Thanks
Tim Prior made a donation to the Make a Wish Foundation
from Brussels Ag Services at the dinner auction. The
Optimist Club which hosted the fundraiser exceeded its
goal by over three times. Accepting the cheque is Don
Sholdice (Vicky Bremner photo)
Looking for local heroes
There are so many people out there who do
so much to improve their community.
Now you have a chance to say thanks.
Nominate that special person for the 14th
Annual Citizen Citizenship Awards.
Each year a committee chooses an outstanding citizen from each of
the Blyth and area and Brussels and area communities to receive an
award for contribution to the community. If you know someone you
think should be honoured, please fill in the ballot and send it in. You
may attach a longer explanation of why you think your nominee
should win, if you like. If you have nominated someone before and
he or she didn't win, please feel free to try again.
