Sermon tells of low profile

Communion Sunday, April 9. Rev.
Ernest Dow the guest minister
welcomed the congregation.
The senior choir sang When I
Survey the Wondrous Cross,
accompanied by Elizabeth Procter
at the piano.
The gospel lesson was taken
from John 12: 20-33 and was read
by Rev. Peter Tucker.
The children’s selection before
story time was The Butterfly Song.
The children gathered in the front
pew. Rev. Dow passed out
sunflower seeds to them. When
planted these seeds grow plants
which produce more seeds. “If you
follow Jesus your life would be like
the seeds growing more love,” he

Evening Unit views video
The April meeting of the Evening
Unit to Knox United Church,
Belgrave was held Tuesday, April 4
at the home of Muriel Coultes with
13 members answering the roll call
by naming a favourite spring'
flower. Lorna Cook welcomed
everyone and thanked Muriel for
hosting the meeting. She read an
Easter poem The Radiance of
Easter.
Sheila Nixon presented the
worship using scriptures from Luke
24.
Mrs. Nixon led in prayer.
The April event was held April 5
at Stratford Central. The
proclamation Bible reading is being
held at the Wingham Presbyterian
Club hears Manning poem
The Belgrave Community Club
met on Friday, April 7 at 1 p.m.
with dessert being served and Blyth
seniors as guests.
The Fall Rally will be hosted by
Belgrave Sept. 28.
Special speaker was Sally
Lawton, executive director with
Wingham and Area Adult Day
Centre. She explained how the
programs give caregivers time to
call their own. She also stressed the
need for good communication and
patience.
Several musical members were
enjoyed. Mabel Wheeler read a
poem composed by Bill Manning
Moms talk of volunteers
Mabel’s Moms met at their
regular time on Wednesday, April
5.
Those who attended were:
Crystal Agombar, Zachary,
Nicholas and Dustin Pennington;
Linda Hess and Judith; Lila Procter
and Jessica; Donna Raynard, Curtis
and Craig, Tracey Brohm and
Liam; Kim Higgins, Ashley,
Shelby and Jarrod Logan.
Their topic was Volunteers.
Gamer and Alice Nicholson were
visitors with Ray and Cindy
Nicholson, Victoria and Alexandra
said. “Thus more Christian seeds
grow in us and make fruit for
Jesus.”
The Old Testament read by Rev.
Mary Jane Hobden was taken from
Jeremiah 31: 31-34.
The sermon was entitled Low
Profile, the-Hotline to the Exalted
One.
Ken Procter and John Dorsch
took up the offering.

Procter, John McIntosh, John
Anderson, Florence McArter and
Don Procter, session members,
passed out the bread and wine.
The flowers in the sanctuary
were placed by the families in
loving memory of Alice Scott.

On a motion by Freda Johnston,
seconded by Laura Johnston, it was
decided to give the junior choir
money towards new music.
The May 2 meeting will be at
Louise Bosman’s home.
Barbara Anderson showed a
video entitled House Upon the
Sand which discussed the
distribution of wealth throughout
the world. It was divided into three
sections. Part one was measuring of
wealth, part two The Gap between
Distribution and the reason for this
gap while part three was on What
people can do about gaps.

The rest of the afternoon was
spent playing euchre and lost heir.

hands, Les Shaw. Winners for lost
heir were: high lady, Harve
McDowell; high man, Feme
Howatt; low man, Erma Cook.
The next meeting for the
Belgrave Community Club will be
May 5 at 1:30 p.m.
of Elmira. They spent several days
with Margaret and Glynn Wide of
Hamilton.
Congratulations to Travis
Campbell who played goal for the
Midget Blyth Bulldogs in the
Canadian Cup Hockey Tournament
in Montreal, March 31 - April 2.
The Dogs won Silver in the finals.
Travis captured the MVP award for
two games in the tournament and
the overall sportsmanship award for
the Midget Division -of the
tournament.
A Celebration of Ministry
Service was held at 2 p.m. at
Calvin Brick United Church. Past
ministers Rev. Mary Jane Hobden,
Rev. John Roberts and Rev. Peter
Tucker participated in the service
as well as Rev. Ernest Dow,
pastoral charge supervisor.
A social time followed the
service.
On Sunday, April 16, Palm
Sunday the junior choir will be
singing at Knox.
The Calvin Brick UCW will meet
at the home of Yvonne Coultes at 8
p.m. on Tuesday, April 18. A good
Friday Service will be held at 11
a.m. at Knox on Friday, April 21.
Bruce and Melissa* Whitmore
will be guest speakers for the
service.
40 play euchre
There were 10 tables of euchre in
play at the Women’s Institute Hall
on Wednesday, April 5.
Winners were: high lady,
Margaret McVitter; second high,
Clifford Coultes; lone hands, Viola
Adams; low lady, Doris Michie;
high man, Dennis Leddy; second
high man, Harvey Edgar; lone
hands, Alf Nichol; low man,
George Michie.
There will be euchre again on
Wednesday, April 12 at 8 p.m.

Get up, get moving
That was the message promoted when the Huron County
Health Unit and Town and Country Support Services
wrapped up a very successful Year of the Older Person
program at Blyth Trinity Anglican Church last week. The
“Please Help me, I’m Falling” skits were designed to
make seniors aware of risks which could contribute to
falls and injuries. The 35 volunteer actors, Rising Stars
Theatre Troupe, presented 24 performances throughout
the year. Here, Nelva Scott, as Mary Margaret, standing,
tries to convince benchwarmer, Ruby (Genevieve
Madden) that increased activity improves enjoyment of
life.

On April 2 the WMS meeting
was held at the home of Dini
Nethery. Prayer was said by Freda
Scott with Lottie Scott reading the
scripture. Mrs. Scott gave the
meditation on Easter from the Glad
Tidings.
Margaret Siertsema gave the
secretary’s report and Mrs. Cloakey
gave the treasurer’s report. Roll call
was answered with Easter poems.
Plans were made for mission
Sunday, April 30. Spring rally is in
Lucknow on May 15. On May 1 a
video will be shown and on May 3
the women are invited to South
Kinloss.
