Year of Older Person
wraps up at Trinity
The Huron Perth Prevention of
Falls in Seniors Partnership is
pleased to announce the wrap-up
celebration of the International
Year of the Older Person (IYOP).
There will be a skits presentation
April 7 at Trinity Anglican Church,
Dining for Seniors program in
Blyth.
This presentation is just one
aspect of a grant project aimed at
preventing falls in seniors, entitled
Celebrating and Enhancing our
Seniors Independence in Huron and
Perth Counties.
The IYOP funding provided
three programs. In Huron,
Community Care Access Centre
trained six trainers who will work
with personal support workers to
provide falls prevention activity for
frail seniors. Another six
facilitators were trained to provide
“Steady As You Go” sessions for
healthy, active seniors.
A series of humorous and
thought-provoking skits called
Please Help Me I’m Falling has
been booked for 22 performances.
Several of the 26 volunteer senior
actors will be presenting the skits at
the wrap-up.
Similar activities are being held
in Perth County.
The Huron Perth Prevention of
Falls in Seniors Partnership, a sub
committee of the Huron Perth
Injury Prevention Committee,
includes community agencies and
volunteers along with staff from
Town and Country Support
Services and Huron County Health
Unit.
If interested in attending the skits
or need more information, contact
Susan Armstrong at 357-3222 or
Marguerite Thomas at 482-3416 or
1-800-265-5184.
