Nella Blake, who lived in Brus sels for about 30 years until her more recent move to Wingham, will operate the family-style restau rant and do most of the cooking. Whilenoting there will be no par ticular specialty item, Blake says, “Everything will be special and everything will be good.” The eatery has been cleaned, painted and redecorated in the theme of tartan and pipers. Long association by herself and partner Jim McLean with the Brussels Pipe Band and Five Counties Pipes and Drums inspired the name, says Blake. McLean is the pipe major for the Brussels band and Blake is the drum sergeant. With the new decor, Blake wants the restaurant to have a comfort able, homey feel and the numerous pictures on the walls will bring back memories for Brussels people. It was the help of many friends during full work days which helped Blake ready the restaurant for busi ness. “They came from Wingham and Toronto. There was one woman in her 70s, on her knees washing and polishing,” she adds. Along with the new look for the Merry Piper, Blake has hired almost all new staff for the busi ness. Blake says she hopes to satisfy what the people of Brussels and area are looking for. With dinners and suppers, Blake says the meals will not be fancy. “Good home cooking is the aim.” She will offer a nice selection of desserts such as Support minor sports Attend a game The news from ranbrook Compiled by Peter Hagedoom Phone 887-6935 Last euchre, Friday Friday, April 7, the last euchre party until fall will be held at the Cranbrook Community. Centre. Euchre parties will continue in September of this year if we can manage to organize them with help from people in the community. If you want to help please call Mrs. Sharon Evans at 887-6583. Work on the basement of the hall is progressing well and we are planning to paint the basement walls before the carpet goes in. It will be a great improvement when we can hold the fall euchre parties there. Mr. and Mrs. Wittig held an open house birthday party for Candice Kamilli Wittig in the Cranbrook Community Hall. Family and friends attended, some 70 people in total. It was a very successful party. She also hopes to soon open a larger dining room or meeting facility in the north room of the restaurant. The separate section will accommodate 35 to 40 people. Blake suggests it would be good for birthday parties, anniversaries or meetings. Ready for business April 6, the restaurant will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week. The establishment will be half smoking, half non-smoking. Eliminate Your Headaches! Call now to have us do your Personal or Business Taxes! C.A.M.C.
