A Note from Betty
Did you enjoy eating supper on Sunday night gazing out into the daylight
at all the green growth of spring? This first week of Daylight Savings Time
seems like a nice gift at this time of year, expected but still a nice surprise.
In case you missed Nora Stephenson and Fran and Bill Bremner in March
that’s because they left us for two weeks to visit Ross and Betty Knight’s
home in Port Charlotte, Florida. It sounds like they had a good time with
summer weather, interesting day trips and oranges and grapefruit to pick and
eat in the yard. I’m glad you had a good time and it’s good to have you
back.
There was lots of traffic at the school on Saturday as the craft sale for the
students projects hit a popular vein with the shoppers. Good idea. Hope your
profits were excellent.
Farewell Richard and George. Good luck on your new ventures in British
Columbia. We’ll miss you at our social functions and in the neighbourhood
flowerbeds.
There is a beautiful bunny at the 5Rs wanting to go home with you before
Easter. Drop in and get a ticket. She’s a sweetie.
The spring bug seems to be here getting everyone out and about. Join the
mo /ers and get your exercise and social time all at once.
Bye now,
Betty G.

The regular meeting of the
Brussels Horticultural Society was
held in the library at 7:30 p.m. on
March 27. There were 27 members
present plus two visitors. Helen
Dobson and Doreen Rutledge were
convenors.
After words of welcome by
President Gert Kellington, O
Canada was sung with Alice
Brothers playing the piano. The roll
call was to name and describe a
house plant. The new programmes
were distributed. Leona Armstrong
and Alice Brothers then led us in a
sing-song.
Lyle Brothers showed many
beautiful slides of flowers from
different gardens. Doreen Rutledge
thanked him with a gift.
It was decided that the president
would be responsible for the library
key for each meeting.

The Society donated $25 to the
Brussels Business Group to help in
their millennium project.
A short discussion on flowerbed
care and planting flower boxes was
held. Jane White and Spence Scott
offered to help with “Friendly
Gardens”.
Several lucky draws were
conducted by Helen Dobson.
Lunch was served by Doris
McCall, Ruth Pipe and Jane White.
