Angus Sinclair. Wade Whittaker. If you remember these past conductors of the Blyth Festival Singers, you will be interested to know that they’ll be back on the podium with the choir for a special anniversary concert. The Blyth Festival Singers is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and in honour of this occasion a gala concert has been planned for Saturday, May 6 at the Blyth Memorial Hall. The three former choir directors will be joining batons with the current conductor Richard Hansen to present a concert of favourite selections. Each conductor has chosen three of their favourite choir numbers to perform. As well, the choir will also sing a selection of songs representing the musical history of the past century. Former choir members are also being invited to sing in the concert as the former conductors lead the mass choir through the familiar songs. Former choir members are asked to contact Linda Hearn of Clinton at 482-8123 to register or for more information. Deadline for registrations is April 21. Former choir members will have the opportunity to rehearse with the choir before the performance, and also share in a special time of fellowship on the concert day. The concert promises to be a special event and will take place on Saturday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Blyth Memorial Hall. Blyth Festival Singers’ accompanist Sharon Johnston of Goderich will accompany the choir on the grand piano. The audience is invited to attend a wine and cheese reception following the concert. Tickets for the Blyth Festival Singers’ 20th Anniversary Gala Concert will be available soon from choir members and at regular ticket outlets. It is time to take advantage of the savings being offered by the Blyth Festival Theatre. By purchasing either the Regular Season Pack or Adventure Pack, patrons get reduced ticket prices without the limitations of selecting specific performances. The Festival Theatre is able to provide flexibility to purchasers because the plays run in rotation throughout the season rather than in sequences. The Regular Season Pack con tains four vouchers, each good for one admission to any performance. The Adventure Pack has a lower price, but less ’flexibility. The vouchers are used for one admis sion to four different plays. Confirmation of show times selected can be done now for Death of a Hired Man, last year’s smash hit, or after April 16 for the rest of the season’s performances. These special packages are avail able until June 23 and can be pur- chased by visiting the box office or calling 523-9300 or 1-877-TO- Blyth. OPEN HOUSE 90th Birthda Saturday, April 8\ ' 2:00 to 4:00 / at the home of Shirley Fyfe 160 Dinsley St. W. Blyth CAS calling all clowns Helen McLean always had a secret wish to be a clown, as do many of us. Little did she realize how she would be moved to accomplish just that. It was later in life, with the parsing of her husband Grant, that she recognized the opportunity to live out that wish. Grant could be remembered fondly as a person who loved to create laughter and make people happy. Helen knew that her becoming a clown would be the perfect way for her to extend this special gift, through herself to others, in his honour. As luck would have it, the opportunity came for her to do so with the introduction of the CAS CLOWN SCHOOL, where Helen became one of the first participants and graduates. In “Clown Alley”, Helen is known as Knobby, (A name of endearment given to her by her husband). Knobby says that she has performed over a hundred times since her graduation for seniors and children. She considers this “work” a labour of love. The laughter she creates echoes back to her, making clowning one of the most rewarding experiences of her life. If you still have that wish, there is a CLOWN SCHOOL starting April 18. Call 524-7356 or 1-800- 265-5198 for more information.
