Cancer Society prepares for Daffodil Month At the Canadian Cancer Society, they are thinking spring - when volunteers sell fresh daffodils across Ontario to launch Daffodil Month in April. The Society’s annual major fundraising campaign begins this year with the selling of daffodils from March 30 to April 2. Over 200 Canadian Cancer Society volunteers will be selling close to 12,000 bunches of daffodils at various locations in Huron Perth Counties. Bright daffodils have long been a Grey council approves security installation At the regular meeting of Grey Township council held on March 20 the proposal from Innovative Security Systems of Seaforth to install a security system in the municipal building at a price of $900 plus $240 per year for monitoring the system was approved. A break-in at the municipal building in January resulted in a loss of over $12,000 in tools and equipment. Council, agreed to the proposal of Ethel Minor Ball Committee to install lights at the Ethel Park. The township will provide a $10,000 grant and will provide a loan to a maximum of $12,000 to the symbol of hope for the Canadian Cancer Society and for those living with cancer. “Organized by local volunteers, the annual daffodil campaign raised $45,000 last year,” said Deborah Barton, manager, Canadian Cancer Society. Beginning on April 1, canvassers will be visiting residents to ask them for donations in the fight against cancer. “The daffodil campaign kicks off the canvass,” said Barton. Five trucks carrying more than 9,600 boxes containing almost five committee to assist with the project. The loan will be repaid by the community in equal annual payments to the township’s three hall boards over the next three years. A $100 membership fee for the Huron County Water Quality Coalition was authorized for 2000. Council endorsed a resolution from the township of Wellesley petitioning the province to dedicate a share of fuel, gas taxes and license/registration taxes to municipalities. The next regular meeting of Council is scheduled for April 3 at 7 p.m. million blooms drive across the country from British Columbia. The Canadian Cancer Society is the single largest source for funding cancer research in Canada. This research has helped produce new knowledge to help us understand the causes of cancer.
