The news from ondesboro Compiled by Brenda Radford Phone 523-4296 Lawsons greet at United Richard Bain was guest speaker at Londesboro United Church this past Sunday. His service theme was Judas the disciple and his betrayal of Christ for 30 pieces of silver. Relevant scripture passages were Matthew 27: 1-10 and John 12: 1- 8. Greeting churchgoers were Reg and Elizabeth Lawson. The ushers were Harry and Gail Lear. During the children’s time, Richard Bain related how discouraged his daughter was feeling about some poor marks on her report card. He told his daughter and the children that no one has failed or is less a person for not being perfect. God’s love looks beyond faults and sees only the good in each person. Although condemned as Christ’s betrayer, Judas had his role to play in God’s plan. His actions were an attempt to realize his dream of a new social order based on Christ’s teachings. He expected Christ to triumph immediately, not ultimately. However, feeling himself a failure, he did not hear Christ call him friend, nor was he there to celebrate on Easter morning. God’s love teaches that failure in doing is not failure in being; that each person is precious regardless of defeats or winnings. Next Sunday there will be coffee and muffins served prior to the morning service. Londesboro’s annual Songfest on Jesus and Judas Iscariot complained. Jesus tpld him “The poor are always with you and I will not always be here.” The sermon was on Judas Iscariot - the disciple who betrayed Jesus. Offering was then received by Nancy and Greg Park.
