Atoms wrap up season Tuesday night the Brussels Atom Rep team travelled to Lucknow for the final game of the round robin. Brussels got on the game sheet with the first goal scored by Matt White with Adam McClure and Andrew McDonald setting him up. Lucknow was consistent in their scoring with one goal per period. Brussels finished the consolation group play with eight points giving them the chance to play one more game against the other team with the most points which will be Chesley. The Rep team travelled to Mildmay last weekend for a tourna ment. Friday night the team played against Mount Forest’s additional entry team. Ropp scored on a pass from Chase Chapman. Then when James Roberts took a shot, Doug Schnock, who was set in front of the net popped it into the comer. Less than three minutes later, Cory Chapman moved in deep from the defense and was waiting at the cor ner of the net when Andrew McDonald and Schnock got it close to the net. Christopher Jutzi finished off the first period with the fourth goal of the game assisted by McDonald and McClure. Roberts scored the only Brussels goal in the second period with McClure and Ropp setting it up. Mount Forest scored their first goal with less than a minute left in the second period. McClure scored his first goal when he received a beauty pass from Matt White. Schnock scored again with Ropp and Roberts assisting. Jutzi added his second goal of the game when McDonald and McClure helped to get it close to the net and Jutzi was there to shoot it in. Mount Forest finished off the scoring with their second goal of the game. The final score was Brussels 8, Mount Forest 2. Player of the game was Andrew McDonald. Saturday was a different story when they came up against Mildmay. Mildmay’s player of the game scored three times in the first period before the Brussels team was able to shut him down. Brussels was unable to get a shot past the strong Mildmay team and the game ended 3-0. Brussels player of the game was Adam McClure. This tournament was paid for from money raised at the haunted house back in October. Many of the players were there to help out and reaped the reward this past weekend. The team’s final game will be sometime this week against Chesley. The Brussels Tykes ended their season in winning fashion, taking the B championship at the Goderich tournament last weekend. The squad met a difficult Mitchell team Friday evening and although the score was lopsided, both teams played good end-to-end hockey. Several good attempts by the Brussels shooters were stopped, including a deflection of Ryan Baker’s shot in front of the net, one in close by Andrew Watson and a blast from the point by Morgan Deitner. Down 2-0 after the first period, goalie Nic Gowing worked hard to keep the team in the game. Matt Huether was robbed several times as were Brendan Stretton-, Gavin Bowers and Chris Becker when they each attempted to push the puck over the line on one attack. Mitchell went up 5-0 in spite of some great saves by Gowing. The shutout moved Brussels to the B side. Late Saturday afternoon, Brussels took to the ice against Bayfield in a match that went their way. Randy Zwep was hot, scoring two goals in the first period and attempt ing many more. Ray Huether scored first at 18:01 and M. Huether added one at 7:10, putting Brussels up 4-0 after one period. Two more Brussels goals were added in the second when Stretton went in alone at 13:51 and M. Huether took R. Huether’s rebound. Great defense was played by Jordan Roberts, Gowing, Stretton and R. Huether with Danny Donkers rushing the puck and Cole McLean digging it out of crowds. Brussels netminder Robert Cronin played well, losing his shutout with just over six minutes remaining. The Bayfield goalie worked hard, making many good saves. The 6-1 score put Brussels in the B title game Sunday afternoon against Blyth Purple. The previous victory sparked the squad as they earned an 8-2 win. M. Huether tallied a natural hat- trick in the first after R. Huether had opened the scoring. Blyth's’ Grant Sparling was excel lent in net, stopping many shots in close. Brussels Ty Sebastian was kept sharp when Tyler Middegaal broke lose for a shot which Sebastian grabbed. Herbie Runstedler and Baker earned assists on R. Huether’s first netter of the second period. Stretton added one on a solo effort and M. Huether put in a short-handed goal at 9:35. M. Huether finished off the Brussels scoring five minutes later. Blyth would not be shutout, tally ing two in the final three minutes of play. Middegaal put in a shot on a breakaway at 2:51 and Adam Cronin <®> Medic Alert ALWAYS ON CALL www.medicalert.ca For more information 1-BDD-GG8-15D7 BRUSSELS SENIOR SOCCER REGISTRATION TO SIGN UP CONTACT 1.
