PAGE 18. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22, 2000. CranbrookThe news from Compiled by Peter Hagedoorn Phone 887-6935 Grey council euchre draws large crowd Last Friday in the Cranbrook Hall 13 tables were in play at the euchre party hosted by the Grey Twp. councillors. It is a long time since we had such a good turn out. Scores were as follows: high lady, M. MacDonald; high man, John Subject; lone hands, Beryl Smith, Jean McNaughton and Lloyd Smith; low lady, Isabelle Craig; low man, Harold McNaughton; travelling lone hand, Lois Hart; tally cards, Bernice McFarlane, Marion L. Harrison, Adrian Verstoep, Linda Stevens, Leslie Knight, Viola Adams, Joanne Hinz, Bev Neely, Bud Neely, Mervin Schneider, Shirley Verstoep, Allan Edgar, Dorothy Dilworth, Murray Keffer, Maxine Hinz, Elunid Me Nair, Mary Huether, Ken MacDonald and Grace Stewart; 50/50 draw, Graeme MacDonald. Cranbrook Hall Board thanks the councillors for a job well done! Basement work begins at hall Last Saturday the work that was planned for the basement of the hall was started. The partition in the basement between the library room and the corridor was taken out in order to make it possible for euchre parties to be held downstairs. Not only will this improve access for people, as there will be no stairs to climb and wheelchair access is easy, but it will be cheaper to heat that space as well. The Hall board decided on this alteration at the annual meeting and volunteers came forward to do the job. Thanks to Frank Workman, John Vanass, Gary Evans and John Saxon. This is the kind of community spirit that makes it possible to keep our Cranbrook Community Centre a viable part of the community. A$, soon as work has been completed on the basement we shall announce a Saturday morning for cleaning of the hall, washing floors. Volunteers will be needed for that job as well. Mrs Evans also asks that those people wanting to help out with the euchre parties next fall contact her soon so she can set up the timetable for September. Just a note about Adam and Kimberley’s twins. People keep asking about them. The answer is, 44 No, they have not been bom yet.” However they are doing very well, at last ultrasound each weighing six pounds and some. And poor Adam is doing well too! Keep you posted. Mr. and Mrs. Terpstra weekended in Niagara Falls on the trip they won in Brussels at the Valentine Dance. They had a room with a fireplace overlooking the falls and had a wonderful time. Mrs Minielly wants everyone to notice the magnificent flowers that are already in full bloom at this early date on the front step of her house. It is well known that all house plants given to Mrs Minielly expire immediately after finding a place in her house. In other words she is not known for having green thumbs. It is a wonder that she has been able to manage to grow such a magnificent display of flowers in cast iron pots on her front step. It sure brightens up the place.
