West Wawanosh council Zoning amendment meeting set for April 4 West Wawanosh council spoke with Chief Building Official Grant Anger and county planner Brian Treble, at the March 7 meeting, about proposed separation distances for buildings and structures used to house livestock, poultry and fur bearing animals as well as waste storage. A public meeting was set for April. 4 to discuss the zoning amendment. Clerk-Treasurer Liliane Nolan was authorized to forward letters to the drainage referee from Mr. Pannabecker and Mr. Leddy, requesting the petition for the cre­ ation of a new municipal drain, known as the Cook-Leddy Drain, be quashed. The Lucknow and District Fire board’s proposed budget, in the amount of $64,425, was approved. Councillor Neil Rintoul was appoint­ ed to sit on the fire board to investi­ gate and inspect various types of fire trucks. Council was in agreement with the task force of clerks formed to review and investigate and recommend accordingly on the Provincial Offences Act transfer program on behalf of all municipalities. Support was given tc a petition from Pickering asking the federal and provincial governments to give utmost priority to the protection of children from sexual exploitation. Copies were to be sent to the minis­ ter of justice, attorney general of Canada, attorney general of Ontario and Save the Children. Council concurred with the resolu­ tion from Brant County, asking the minister of agriculture, food and rural affairs to instruct ministry staff to cease and desist any review of leg­ islation affecting agricultural soci­ eties, and horticultural organizations which could lead to the elimination of the tax exempt status for fair­ grounds. They also asked that full grant funding be reinstated. Endorsement was given to a request from North Perth petitioning the provincial government, through the minister of finance, to retroac­ tively fund the revenue deficiency create by LSR farmland/ managed forest rebate calculations. Council supported a resolution from South Bruce asking the provin­ cial government to recognize the importance of agriculture and con­ tinue to fund the ministry to reflect that importance. Council concurred with St. Marys petitioning the Ministry of Education to recognize the need for a rural strategy for funding schools which will maintain vital rural communi­ ties. A bylaw to set out special rates to cover tile drainage loans was rescinded.
