Ctt M Grey approves paving ranbrook Grey/Elma. boundary The news from Compiled by Peter Hagedoorn Phone 887-6935 ....................... .............................................................. ......... Good turnout to Hall meeting Last Wednesday the annual meet ing of the Hall board took place. Unlike last year when no one from the community attended, this time there were quite a few people to hear the business of the Cranbrook Community Centre. The Community Centre has been financially independent, thanks to income from euchre parties, rentals and donations. Last year involve ment and help from members in the community, who volunteered to run euchre parties and to do maintenance work also was a very positive factor. It is hoped that this trend of increas ing community participation in the operation of the community centre will continue. So far the community has enabled the Community Centre to operate as a self-sufficient opera tion. Self-sufficiency is particularly important because with the amalga mation of the townships into Huron East ongoing financial support can not be expected. So far the hall has been maintained by the community. However there is a serious lack of people wanting to be hall board members. The Hall board needs three members to join as it cannot operate with only two. It is hoped that some people from the communi ty will come forward to join Sharon Evans and Peter Hagedoorn on the board. Next Friday, March 17. members of Grey Twp. council will host the euchre party at the Hall at 8 p.m. On Sunday Anne Reilly left with 26 other students for Normandy in France as part of a school cultural exchange. This type of exchange can only be encouraged as it will help promote bilingualism. We wish her and the other students a wonderful and interesting journey. The tundra swans have been flying over Cranbrook towards the river. Usually they stop on flooded fields south of Cranbrook. However this year the fields are dry and the swans have not stopped there. On my walk with the dogs I did see that the killdeer are back also. It is going to be early spring! Grey Twp. council held its regular meeting on March 6. It was decided to include the paving of Cone. 3-4 from Huron County Rd. 19 to the Grey/Elma boundary with the 2000 paving ten der for the Town of North Perth. Council accepted the 2000 budget for the Walton Landfill Committee with a projected deficit of $27,050. The Grey share of the deficit is $14,472. Council accepted the 2000 budget of the Brussels, Morris and Grey board of recreation management. The Grey levy for this year is $20,409. This represents a 3.3 per cent decrease from lasst year’s levy. Council approved grants of $150 to the Huron Plowmen’s Association and $50 to the Huron County Home and Farm Safety Association for 2000. Council approval payment of the accounts in the amount of $364,626.83. The next regular meeting of Council is scheduled for March 20 at 7 p.m. TOWNSHIP OF WEST WAWANOSH NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING CONCERNING A PROPOSED ZONING BY-LAW AMENDMENT TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the Township of West Wawanosh will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at 7:30 p.m. in the West Wawanosh Township Council Chambers, to consider a proposed Zoning By-law Amendment under Section 34 of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990.
