Tykes take on Elma-Logan Hitmen off to nationals It was an exciting, action-packed game when the Brussels Tykes took on Elma-Logan, March H. With end-to-end play and numer­ ous shots on both netminders, the crowd was kept on the edge of their seats. Ty Sebastian was sharp in net from the opening face-off, deflect­ ing a shot on a quick break. Elma-Logan got on the board first when they slid it through Sebastian’s legs at 16:53. Matt Huether got the visitors back in the contest just three min­ utes later v'hen he flipped one high. Gavin Bowers worked hard" along BMG rec board talks to caterers A discussion with local caterers took place at the March 8 meeting of the BMG Rec. board regarding the issue of $1 per plate being charged to the caterers when they catered to an event at the arena. The recreation rental agreement was changed to include the following: 1. If a local caterer being defined as a caterer who resides in the municipality of Brussels, Morris or Grey is being used to cater an the blueline, hustling into the oppo­ nent’s end as he repeatedly chal­ lenged the netminder. Ryan Baker was strong on defence while Randy Zwep forced the puck into the Elma-Logan end numerous times. Danny Donkers made a great steal as the home team tried to come out of their end. The squads were tied at the end of the first after a goal by Huether at 3:49 and tying netter at 1:39 by Elma-Logan. After a long struggle in front of their opponent’s net, Brussels final­ ly netted the puck when Huether event, the fee that will be charged to the lessee for the use of the hall is $310. 2. If a non-local caterer is being used to cater an event, then the lessee will be charged $410 for the use of the hall. 3. If a non-profit group is catering to an event with less than 50 people then there will be no charge for the use of the hall. 4. If a non-profit group is catering to an event with more than 50 got his stick on it at 18:11 of the second. A great defensive effort by Robert Cronin and Herbie Runst- edler squeezed a player on a break, but he got through for Elma- Logan's third goal. It was only in the last five min­ utes that Brussels secured the lead, scoring three. Huether hit for two while Brendan Stretton topped off the scoring with just 55 seconds left for the 6-3 win. M. The Valentine’s Dance co- After a five-year absence the Seaforth Juvenile Boys’ broomball team is returning to the National Junior Broomball Championships. The Hitmen earned the right to participate in the Nationals after placing second in the Provincial Qualifying Tournament in December. The first-place team from. Embrun is the Ontario Host Team. These teams will also be joined by the Palmerston Posse, the defending National Champions. At the Provincial Championship in February, the Hitmen placed third behind both Embrun and Palmerston. The Seaforth Juvenile Girls’ Team, the Assassins, will also be participating in the Championship. The 2000 Nationals are being hel<d in the Eastern Ontario communities of Embrun and Russell, south of Ottawa. The tournament featuring teams from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and the Northwest Territories is being Hold it! While the Blyth arena lobby and upstairs was busy with people attending the Midget hockey team’s auction and raffle Saturday, there was a good deal happening on the ice too. Co-ed broomball teams competed, as did some hockey squads before the afternoon contest against the 1992-93 OMHA Bantams and the 2000 Midgets. (Vicky Bremner photo) held March 30 to April 2. The Hitmen are in the process of raising funds to attend the Nationals including a spaghetti supper on Wednesday, March 15 from 4:30 to 7:30 in the Seaforth Agriplex. Any support for the team would be appreciated. The Hitmen play in the Seaforth/Egmondville Broomball League with many of its players having come up through the ranks of the Blyth and Seaforth Minor broomball organizations. The team is composed of players between the ages of 16 and 19 from the Blyth, Seaforth, Walton, Clinton and Goderich areas.
