Council had no objections.*** Approval was given to the pay­ ment of bills and accounts in the amount of $56,063.75.*** Council endorsed six resolutions during rhe session. The first, from St. Marys, asked the Ministry of Education to desig­ nate the Avon Maitland District School Board as rural and remote, thereby extending funding through the program. Support was given to a resolution from South Bruce demanding that all members of the provincial gov­ ernment be made to realize the importance of the agricultural industry in the province. The third resolution, from North Perth, petitioned the provincial government to retroactively fund the revenue deficiency created by* the LSR farmland/managed forest rebate calculation for all affected municipalities in rural Ontario. Council supported a County of Brant resolution petitioning the Ministry of Agriculture, Foods and Rural Affairs to cease any review of legislation affecting agricultural societies and horticultural organiza­ tions which would lead co the elim­ ination of tax exempt status. A resolution from Woodstock asking the federal and provincial governments to fund health care to sufficiently alleviate the backlog of patient waiting lists was endorsed. - Support was given to a resolution from Hastings County petitioning the government to reinstate Special Circumstances Funding to cover transitional and implementation costs for downloaded services.*** Council accepted, with regret, the resignation of Bruce Papple from the adhoc committee for the amphitheatre project. *** Authorization was given to Clerk-Treasurer John Stewart to attend the Association of Municipal Manager, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario annual meeting and profes­ sional development institute, June 11-14. The registration fee of $497.55 will be covered by the vil­ lage. *** Council adopted the budgets of the Blyth and District Community Centre board and the Blyth and District Fire Area board in the amounts of $204,000 and $100,078, respectively. Approval was given for the Mait­ land Valley Conservation Authority budget with the village’s levy at 4,112.56, a two per cent increase. *** Stewart will complete and submit the grant application for a summer student. Council hears event proposal The village of Blyth may have another big event to draw visitors to the community this August. Brian Love attended the Feb. 23 council session to inquire about renting the Thresher’s Park, camp­ grounds and arena for a family-ori­ ented recreational vehicle and motorcycle flea market and show, Aug. 19-20. Love told councillors the event could feature a barbecue, dance, flea market, display and auction sale. The flea market would include all makes and models of recreational vehicles and motorcycles as well as parts and accessories. The two-day show would be open to the public Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Under the rental agreement, the tenant would be responsible for all liability insurance and shall leave the premises in the same conditions as prior to the show.
