Blyth Midgets win OMHA semi-final opener
On Saturday afternoon in Blyth,
the Midget Bulldogs opened their
best of five OMHA semi-final
series against Woodville.
The teams played to a scoreless
first period, however Woodville
tallied a goal just 40 seconds into
the second period to take the lead.
Blyth tied the score just 15 seconds
later on a powerplay as Dave
Ansley split the defence and
scored.
Woodville regained the lead,
scoring with two minutes left in the
second frame
Mitchell too strong
for Brussels squad

Mitchell scored three goals in the
third period and Brussels scored
one. Steven Ropp scored on a pass
from Andrew McDonald and Cory
Chapman. Final score was 7 - 2.
The play was much the same in
Mitchell. Brussels was unable to
get past the strong “B” division
team and was outscored 9-2.
The Bulldogs tied the game at
two when Craig Marks scored six
minutes into the third period. The
teams remained deadlocked for the
remainder of the period to send the
game into overtime. Three minutes
into overtime Drew Corneil
deflected a point shot by Marks
past the Woodville goalie for a 3-2
sudden-victory win.
Game two will also be played in
Blyth Saturday, March 4 at 2 p.rru
with Blyth travelling to Woodville
Sunday, March 5 for a 5:30 start.
Scoring for Brussels was Jordan
Campbell on a strong rising shot
from the blueline which surprised
the Mitchell goalie.
Adam McClure scored on a pass
from James Roberts in the third
period.
The next round of playoffs will
be round robin play against
Shallow Lake and Hensail and one
other team yet to be decided.
