with an open house, Saturday at
Auburn Community Hall.
The former Grace VanOenen and

Following their marriage they
came to Canada, emigrating in
April 1950. They first settled in the
Woodstock-Ingersoll area where
for 13 years Ralph worked as a
farmhand and labourer in the
Beachville Lime Factory.
The couple purchased a farm in
the Auburn area in 1963. Grace
was a busy homemaker tending to
their four children, Roely (Tony
Verburg), George (Cathy), Henry
(Jean) and Andy.
The Lubberses retired to the vil

Their family now includes 13
grandchildren and five great-grand
children.
They are members of Grace

Special guests at the anniversary
celebration were Ralph’s brother

from Fenelon Falls, a sister Fenna
Blok of Auburn, as well as nieces,
nephews, neighbours and friends.
Credibility,
Knox sermon
Scripture was from Isaiah 43. Do
not remember the wrongs of the
past. There is always a future. From
Mark 2 Rev. Ross told how the
crowds came to Jesus and he saw
their faith and healed them.
Rev. Ross’s sermon was
Credibility Counts. Gregory Parks
and Douglas McClinchey received
and presented the offering.
Groups meet
A sumptuous potluck dinner was
enjoyed by the Silver Tops on Feb.
16 at noon at the Community Hall.
Due to illness and appointments
there were fewer than usual able to
attend.
After dinner business was
conducted and roll call answered
with Memories of the Past.
The guest speaker was Harvey
Wightman who needed no
introduction as he was a member
until recently. He showed beautiful
across-Canada pictures.
A delicious variety of cake and
ice cream was the dessert by the
Auburn WI at the hall on the
afternoon of Feb. 17. Guests were
present from various surrounding
areas with excellent attendance.
Betty Archambault gave a brief
outline of Auburn WI services.
After the lunch cards and scrabble
were played.
At the front of the hall was a
table covered with a variety of
draws. Teresa Roetcisoender was in
charge of this program. There were
a goodly number of articles so
everyone was able to go home with
their draw prize.

Recipe Cards Help Readers
Tackle Home Decorating
Jane Lockhart believes in making decorating fun
and affordable for the average person. Her new book,
Room Recipes, reflects that philosophy.
Lockhart and Mary Dobson, a member of the
book's design team, were in London recently
promoting the book and giving demonstrations at the
Lifestyle Home Show.
They agree decorating a home not only gives its
owners pleasure, but also increases its value in an
esthetic and monetary sense.
"If you strip it down to its barest form, it (interior
decorating) is enhancing an asset," Lockhart explains.
"For my money, 1 would definitely want my asset
enhanced. We understand that in renovations, but we
don't always understand that in everything else."
While women have always focused on "event
decorating" — for the birth of a child or a visit from
relatives, for example — decorating didn't become a
mainstream topic until recently. Now, however,
homeowners are more apt to renovate and redecorate
than they are to leave their neighbourhood and buy a
new home, Lockhart says.
Room Recipes was inspired by another book. Paint
a Great Impression, which Lockhart wrote in 1995.
"What we wanted to do was take the same kind of
concept and instead of exploring only one style,
explore 11 different styles.
- By Judy Liebner - Special to The Free Press
Room Recipes - Room Recipes, by Jane Lockhart, outlines 11 different styles of decorating. It features full-colour
photographs and detailed information on paint techniques, window coverings and accessories. The soft-covered book is
published by Benjamin Moore.
