(Ashiey Groppphoto) A Note from Betty If it seemed unusually quiet the first part of the week, it might be because our politicians were in Toronto at the Good Roads Convention soaking up all the knowledge and product information available to our municipal representatives. Hope you had a good time and learned lots. It sure is quiet here. The noise and confusion of having a grown son home for six days was wonderful but Curt had to be back in Ottawa for Sunday. And besides I was ready for my privacy. My, I’m getting stuffy. Thirteen girls from our community did us proud last week as they strutted their talents as part of the All Girls’ Marching Band presentation at the school. The purpose of the evening of entertainment was to showcase the talent in our midst, give us an awareness of the costs of this program and to celebrate the music from Brussels Public School. By learning to play an instrument at the grade school level opportunities are available to our young friends including joining the Seaforth band, increasing their talents even more and having a chance to travel with their peers. After the Girls Band had wowed us - the students from our school let their talents out by performing several band numbers, piano solos, a violin duet and a dance number - very enjoyable! Go for a coffee on Saturday afternoon at the United Church from 1 - 4 p.m. While there you can browse through lots of good books that Joan Golden has brought you. The book display is from the Resource Centre in Mitchell, a main street, church-operated book and resource store. Well ladies, I hope you have plans made for Feb. 29. Keep up the tradition and make your Leap Year wishes known. Bye now, Betty G. Anyone with stories or news about the Brussels community contact Betty at 887-923). Lodge hosts Valentine event Morning Star Rebekah Lodge held a Valentine Ham Supper which was very well attended. Door prizes were won by Isabelle Craig and Ken Barbour. Lucky plate was Irma Brighton. Garner Nicholson was the holder of the lucky 50/50 draw ticket. Euchre followed. The winners were: high lady, June Jacklin; low lady, Sarah Stephenson; men's high, Gamer Nicholson; men’s low, Ken Barbour; ladies’ lone hands, Mary Huether; men’s lone hands, Leslie Knight. There were also many tally card winners. The next euchre party is being held March 20 with a casserole supper at 6:30 p.m. At the Branch By JoAnn McDonald It was a busy week at the Legion as we continue our efforts to keep our Branch going. Friday night saw a great crowd enjoy the cooking of Rosemarie. Remember anyone can come in and enjoy the meal and social atmosphere - you don’t have to be a member. Saturday, 16 Legion members travelled to Tara to compete at District cribbage. They had a lot of fun but unfortunately no winners. Better luck next time. Saturday also had 10 tables of euchre players downstairs at the Branch. The first place winners with a high score of 81 were Len and Betty Archambault. The second place winners were Isabel Gray and Shirley Dittmer with 73 and tied for third place were the two teams of Harvey Edgar and Ed Stewart and Arthur and Maxine Hinze with 72 points. The lone hand winners were Edna McLellan and Lloyd Appleby. Sunday was busy beginning with breakfast served from 8 a.m. to I p.m. A good crowd enjoyed bacon, eggs, pancakes and more. The day was topped off with the singles dance crowd enjoying the music of Country Ways.
