The ...and Perhaps a Play Theatre
Company just began its second
season with Norm Foster’s
Opening Night in the Garage
Theatre.
Opening Night is a comedy about
the opening night of a play and all
the things that can go wrong. The
comedy is currently in the middle
of its run, with the next show being
tomorrow night.
The professional atmosphere the
company strives for was reflected
in most of how they prepared for
the show. Robin Sanders, in his
second year as technical director,
was a good example. He and the
rest of the technical crew did all
within their power to create a
unique and intimate theatre
experience. From the music playing

The Blyth Festival Singers will
present a choral concert, Music For
A Sacred Season, on Sunday,
March 5 at 3 p.m. at Wesley Willis
United Church in Clinton.
The concert will feature some of
the best loved sacred choral music
including selections from the
beautiful and poignant Requiem by
the distinguished British composer
John Rutter. Other selections will
include works by Canadian
composers Healey Willan and
Eleanor Daly, along with other well
loved spiritual pieces like Mozart’s
Ave Verum and Cantique de Jean
Racine by Gabriel Faure.
The Blyth Festival Singers is a
50-voice community choir with
members from throughout Huron
County. The choir is led by Richard
Hansen of St. Marys. Sharon
Johnston of Goderich is the
accompanist. The March 5 concert
will also feature guest organist
Elizabeth Harwood of Hamilton,
and soprano soloist Leslie Jost of

as one entered providing a soft

the production were well thought

Sanders also did a good job with
the set design. His set is simple,
making for fairly quick scene
changes, but definitely created the
atmosphere needed for the two
different scenes. Of particular
notice, was the box seats in the play
within a play. They were ingenious.
Director, Jay Sanders, did an
excellent job picking much of his
cast. Two males in particular were
noteworthy. Rick Jongejan (Jack)
plays a middle-aged man on his
25th Wedding Anniversary,
attending the theatre for the first
time. Curtis DeBoer (Richard)plays
the director of the play.
Jongejan pulled off the task of
suspending the audience’s belief,

He was an interesting complement
to his wife (Sarah Gedke).
DeBoer was phenomenal as
Richard, pulling an act of
femininity while not being a
stereotype. His sketchy relationship
with Cilla (Zoellyn Onn) showed
the insincerity and selfishness of
the character. For his acting itself,
this play is worth seeing. He
commanded the floor, drawing the
audience’s attention with his
words. He certainly had the skill of
a professional actor.
The run ends Feb. 19 with a
