Bridal 2000 A groom’s guide to good grooming After months of planning, the big day has finally arrived. A wedding march has begun, the bride is being bustled, the guests are settled-and all eyes are on...the groom! While there are many wedding day rituals to ensure a beautiful bride, it is just as important for a groom to be well-groomed. But men know that a little preparation can go a long way. On average, they spend 23 minutes grooming themselves each day; on special occasions, 31 minutes. Following are some wedding-day tips to ensure the groom looks and feels his best. After all, it's his special day, too! HAIR CARE The best hairstyle for a groom? Something classic and neat that won't look dated in wedding-day pictures. And because shorter hair tends to grow fast, have your hair cut during the week before your wedding for the freshest look. STARTING SMART Eat a light, healthy breakfast to boost your energy for the day. Try a bowl of oatmeal or natural cereal with fruit or nuts and nonfat milk, a grapefruit, a glass of juice and a cup of decaffeinated coffee or tea. NO-NICK SHAVING Shower or bathe before you shave, and wash the face and neck with warm water. It takes about two minutes of soaking to achieve optimal beard softening for a comfortable shave. Apply plenty of shaving cream or gel to keep beard hair moist during the shave; try a sensitive skin or aloe-enriched shaving cream or gel. DON’T SWEAT IT The pressure of getting married is no sweat to handle with a strong anti-perspirant. New technology, makes it even easier to get better protection from odor and wetness with active ingredients that penetrate underarm hair and go directly to the skin. Even if yours is a black tie affair, make sure your tuxedo is WE MAKE Jt Wedding footnotes with fancy accents Today’s bridal fashions are as diversified as today’s woman. Individual expression is the new focus: Brides can choose styles that are whimsical, glamorous or traditional for their wedding theme. And, the accessories they choose to complete the look can make the difference between looking good and looking sensational. Choosing the right shoes that complement the total look is easier today than ever. Styles include plain satin, floral tapestries, lace- on-satin and ornamental treatments. When’dyed-to-match, satin shoes provide the perfect footnote to a colour-accented wedding gown, as well as a necessity for a truly fashionable bridal party. Here are expert hints for choosing the best footwear accents for the bride and her attendants: 1. Choose a comfortable heel height. There are a variety of fashion styles available in high, medium and low heel heights. 2. Try on the shoes at gown fittings. The height of the heels will affect the skirt length. 3. Break in new shoes by wearing them around the house for a few hours at least a week before the ceremony. Scuff the soles a bit to avoid slipping down the aisle. 4. When having shoes dyed-to- match, bring a swatch of material from the dress - don’t guess at the right shade. Allow 72 hours for dyeing. 5. For a dressier look, try a floral tapestry design or lace-on-satin dyeables. The lace dyes lighter than the satin for a contrasting effect. 6. Add pizzazz to a plain pump with a rhinestone or pearl clip-on ornament. 7. Satin dyeable maryjanes with a swivel strap or strapless skimmer are available for children. Flowergirls should be fitted in-store to assure proper fit. No matter what theme the bride chooses - traditional, glamorous or whimsical - the secret behind a joyous and flawless wedding is planning ahead.
