Wild wigs and wacky waves
There were a lot of laughs and giggles at Walton Public School Friday when staff and
students participated in Wacky Hair Day. From coloured locks to bows, ribbons, spikes and
wigs, everyone seemed to enjoy letting it all hang out. Pictured in back, from left: Kyle

Rev. speaks about authority
Bill and Marie Coutts greeted at
Duff’s United Church on Jan. 30.
Guest speaker for the service was
Rev. Bonnie Cole-Arnal. She
announced that Wednesday, Feb. 2
at 8 p.m. the UCW will meet at the
church.
The sermon was called, By
Whose Authority? It was taken
from the story in Mark where Jesus
has just come from Capernaum,
entered the synagogue and begun to
teach. People were amazed at his
teaching and said that he spoke
with authority.
Jesus’ leadership carried
authority, the leadership of the
scribes did not, Rev. Cole Arnal
said. She talked a bit about when
she did some supply work in a few
high schools. In one class it was

clear the students thought it was
their job to give her a hard time,
she said. In the other class the
students were co-operative and
settled into their work with a
minimum of fuss.
She concluded that in the case of
the well-behaved class, the
authority of the teacher carried over
and was present in the classroom
even when the teacher was absent.
“So what about the issue of
authority as it relates to us as the
people of God?” she asked. “Under
what authority do we live? Do we
live under the authority of fear?
Are we so afraid for the future of
the church that we cannot risk
living by faith? Do we live under

The Walton kindergartens
studied the letter D this past week.
They made a Dino Den, with a
table and blanket. The children
could go in and explore books
inside the Dino Den with the aid of
a flashlight.
They made dinosaur puppets, did
matching sheets - dinosaurs to their
skeletons and participated in a
dinosaur dig at the sandbox. Using
paintbrushes, they excavated for
dinosaur bones (toothpicks). They
used the bones to paste onto the
matching sheet and match bones to
skeletons. Duck paper-bag puppets
were made amj they got to watch
The Ugly Duckling video.
The Grade l/2s are continuing
experimenting with solids and
liquids in their unit on matter. This
week one of their experiments
consisted of a liquid race. They put

ketchup, oil. water and molasses at
the top of cardboard, tilted the
board then watched to see which
