Cruising the boards The Blyth arena was busy on the weekend when an Oldtimers broomball tournament took place on Saturday. Ladies Oldtimers from Blyth and Seaforth met in one contest. Compiled by Kay Lapp Phone 526-7264 Baptism, Knox topic As the congregation arrived for the service at Knox United on Jan. 30 a musical prelude by Bernice Gross greeted them. Next Sunday’s service will be at Londesboro. The Youth Group will be in charge. Coffee and treats will be served prior to the service. Rev. Paul Ross will be taking a course from Jan. 24 to Jan. 28. The UCW will meet Feb. 7 at 8 p.m. The Auburn Community Care Project is beginning, contact representatives and more information will be available at the meeting. For children’s time the mystery bag contained several new books. Rev. Ross spoke to the children regarding the necessity and pleasure of reading. Scripture began with 1st Genesis where God created the world. Rev Ross continued with Acts 19. Here Paul spoke about baptism. Ropp ended the scoring with assistance from McDonald. The score of the game was 4-1. Kyle Gibson played an excellent series in net stopping many shots as is indicated by the number of goals Howick scored. The first game in the next series against Drayton was in Brussels on Tuesday night. The second game will be on Sunday in Drayton. baptize Him. Rev. Ross’s sermon was Off to a Good Start. He spoke about baptism. When parents baptize a little one it is their promise to God to bring that child up in God’s way. Some are baptized much older and they promise to follow the Lord’s Way. John Bryce is eligible for re-elec­ tion. Due to the untimely death of Tom Cunningham, the Board appointed Barry Millian for the area surrounding Goderich. There will be an election held for this position, to complete the balance of the term of one year. Any qualifying policyholder wishing to run as a Director for these areas must file their intention to run, in writing, along with a nomination form, with the Corporate Secretary or his designate, no later than close of business, February 18th, 2000. Corporate Secretary Brussels, In end-to-end play which kept both goalies busy, Brussels doubled up the Blyth Tykes Purple squad last Thursday. Brussels got on the board quickly when Matt Huether popped in two during his first shift. Brussels goalie Nic Gowing was kept mov­ ing as he deflected shots away from the crease. Blyth drew closer at 10:21 of the first when a shot slipped between Gowing’s pads. Huether put Brussels up by two with his natural hattrick when he slid one in at 21:16 of the second frame. Brendan Stretton took a pass from Ryan Baker to close out the scoring in the 4-2 win. Blyth netminder Matt Chalmers was very good in net, stopping many breakaways and shots in close. In the second game of the home and home series, Blyth visited Brussels Saturday morning. Once again, the matchup resulted in an exciting game with great shots through to the final minutes. Brussels netminder Robert Cronin was put to work from the face-off, stopping a shot and keep- Auburn UCW meets The Auburn UCW will meet Feb. 7 at the church at 8 p.m. The Walkerburn Club meets at the home of Betty Archambault on Monday afternoon, Jan. 31. The community regrets the death of Thomas Lawlor’s sister, Mrs. Thelma McIntyre, Stratford. We offer our sincere sympathy to Tom, Mildred and family. Mr. and Mrs. Lawlor left for Stratford on Sunday. Huether struck again just over a minute later taking the puck from his own end and poking it over the line on a wraparound shot. They tied the tally at two with 49 seconds remaining in the first period. Zach Watson got an assist in the second when he set up Huether who slid it in as he hit the ice. Huether added his fourth of the game when he flipped one over the netminder at 9:24. Blyth drew to within one at the 4:54 mark when they got around Cronin.
